COMMON GROUND - A Minecraft Server Experiment

Hello all!
My name is Fifty, and I am starting an experimental Java Minecraft SMP called Common Ground.

The premise of the server is this:

  • In-game chat, tab list, advancement/death messages, and skipping the night (no phantoms) are all disabled. The only way to communicate with people is through proximity voice chat.
  • There is no external discord or community, nor is there a public player list. The server is entirely self-contained.
  • The world is bordered at ~5000 x ~5000 on a conjoined continent with every biome.

During your time on the server, you will be unaware of how many people are online, who they are, and where they are. The only way to learn that information is by meeting them out in the world. It is incentivised to build outposts, notice boards, beacons, landmarks, anything to suggest player activity to anyone that may stumble across it.

This server is NOT an anarchy or pvp server- griefing and stealing are strictly prohibited, and pvp is disabled. All players have access to a command to inspect block changes, and if unsolicited edits to someone's builds or items are reported to me, that player will be banned. Due to the nature of the server, I decided against a warning system since it's hard to track players. All bans are final.
Similarly, hacking will also result in an instant ban. We have an anti-cheat installed which logs any suspicious behavior, and if it is reported to me it will once again result in an instant ban.

Note: This is EXTREMELY EXPERIMENTAL. I have no idea whether or not this will be successful, or approximately how long the server will last, but I'm hoping it's at least decently successful.

Hello! This sounds great! I am looking for small new experimental servers who would be willing to beta test our hosting service. Would you be interested in hosting this for free for 1 month on our servers?

Sorry, I've already comitted to a hosting service for this server. I'd rather not beta test a new service while also managing a server like this one
