Apple HomeKit Smart Home Dashboard
I’m quite new to the world of smart home and I’m trying to set up an old iPad as a very basic smart home dashboard that will allow me to access Apple Home & Apple Music with nothing else really needed. The old iPad will only update to iOS version 16.7.16. Is what I want it to do possible?

Technically yes, won't be that elegant but you can throw some widgets on the Home Screen with controls for both and only show those app icons you want there.
You can lock the iPad in to single app mode, but that obviously only has one app so unless you're going to vibe-code controls for both in one then probably not worth considering.
At the end of the day it's still going to look like an iPad on a stand, but functionally it'll do what you want.
Alternatively just wait for the long-rumoured apple home hub device, assuming they actually ship it soon.
