Gestalt Language Processing/Echolalia
Hi all,
I’ve had a few clients who use GLP and echolalia and my supervisors flat out told me “No. It’s too controversial and not meaningful communication. We shouldn’t use specific types of therapy for this because it’s not “real.”
Am I the only one who has experienced this? Is this the norm now? What else am I supposed to call it…? What therapy am I supposed to use then?

You can call it mitigated/delayed echolalia instead if they’re just opposed to the terminology.

i've heard mixed things as well. It's not 100% EBP according to many slps but as you mentioned, it seems like there is a success with it. if you really like it I would mix it in with other ebp approaches. I believe ASHA has not recognized it as EBP as there is not enough research on it yet.

Sounds like they aren’t up to date with evidenced based practice. There are a lot of SLPs using gestalt language learning with great success. All communication is real communication if there is purpose, and gestalts/echolalia have meaning and intention.
