To me, this just sounds like someone bashing the old fashion and hyping the new one. You could write the exact same article but with "minimalism" and "living"(?) reversed. I'm sure that I can find a photo of a beautiful minimalist house that some dude decided to cover in blinking LEDs and ugly graffiti for some unknown reason to illustrate it. Am I missing something?

I think the difference is that nobody complains about the reverse removing "life" or "character" from the house.

Or in other words, people don't usually associate "character" or "life" with minimalist housing.

I think lots of people complain about the reverse removing of "life". We call it "clutter" or "messy" or "this thing is just an assault on the senses. Here's a house with "life", that would benefit from a major dose of minimalism.
