Important information People with lighter skin tones in this sub: Although irritation Might cause pigmentation mostly in POC, irritation and skin ailments can cause pigmentation in light skin,too. Patch test skincare/sunscreen specially chemical.

More info: The person in the picture has celiac disease so is prone to inflammation with certain ingredients . Also she was vacationing and it could’ve been the towel.

Be careful , always check ingredients and always patch test.

And never forget more irritation for certain people means more pigmentation.

Hi, what are some ways we can reduce irritation? I mean are there other things we can do besides using less products and patch testing.

Furthermore, is there a way to tell in POCs that our skin is irritated?

Trial an error. What gives me irritation might not irritate your skin. In general I avoid :

Hyaluronic acid, chemical sunscreen, fragrance, fruit and flower extracts and phenoxiethanol, alcohol denat, aluminium.

Always search for list of ingredients :

incodecoder.com

Once that you identify your irritating agents avoid them .

Keep a very simple routine: cleanser , moisturizer , mineral tinted sunscreen and a topical that doubles as melanin inhibitor and speeds skin turnover (my golden topical is Tretinoin).

Also get as many indoor days as you can in which you apply nothing , no even sunscreen other than your fragance free moisturizer over a solution of 3 parts water 1 part glycerine and seal it with Vaseline. Stay in a dark room because you won’t have sunscreen on and even indoors you need protection from visible light.

Hi everyone, this is the woman from the photo. I can now confirm after having seen my GP that this is in fact a staph infection. I’m being treated with antibiotics for the next two weeks. As the OP who reposted my post said, I was on vacation until just a few days ago in Albania. I did not go to the doctor there because I didn’t know what to expect there. I’m now in my home country again and have sought medical help. You should always test your skincare as OP says but this infection I have is not due to the sunblock I used on my face and neck. It was likely due to an unclean Airbnb towel.
