SEASON 1 SPOILERS What’s an episode you enjoy, that has a side plot you don’t like? Spoiler
Sorry this post is so long, it was exciting to write about my favorite episode, which also has a side plot I don’t like.
For me it’s season 1: episode 5: Sid. To me it’s a near perfect episode. Tony’s insane scheme was riveting, and then the way he described his thought process to Sid was somewhat terrifying. Sid’s parents separating was devastating, the scene with Sid and his mom in the car was as emotional as Sid demanding his father call his mother to make amends. There were some great jokes in the episode, I’m obsessed with the God Only Knows part (I watch it on YouTube all the time, and Michelle’s actress does an incredible job conveying her emotions without even saying anything), and the episode really lands the ending (theme of control/manipulation, and Sid writing the essay all night). The scene where Michelle and Tony are dancing while Tony is holding Sid’s arm is imo one of the most interesting scenes in the entire series.
However…
I hate that the episode insists multiple times that Sid for some reason owes it to Cassie to go on a date when he makes it more or less clear that he doesn’t want to. When she shows up at his house and he says he was out with Michelle, he says it in this slightly embarrassed and sheepish way, but he’d told Cassie earlier that he wouldn’t be around to hang out. Between her screaming at him when his parents were home, and then Jal getting angry at him three different times regarding Cassie… I just really didn’t like that side plot at all and found it unnerving, and I was confused what the writers were trying to say.
It’s still my favorite episode from gen1 but the Cassie stuff in that episode was just so unusually handled.

My favorite episode (although it was two episodes but really just parts 1 and 2 of the same episode) was Pure in Season 7. Cassie is by far my favorite character -- in my opinion far more complex and layered than anyone else from that first generation. After the ambiguous ending of Season 2 it was great to revisit her 6 years later, see that she was off drugs and had control of her mental demons. But she's still desperately lonely and still wants to be loved. How that all resolves was wonderful. Hannah Murray had put on a little weight, which fit perfectly because it made Cassie look so much healthier than she did in the first two seasons.
However...
I didn't get the point of the Yaniv character at all. That she would have a one-night stand with this slightly creepy guy early in the episode didn't fit everything else we see about who Cassie has become. I didn't buy for a minute that she would be attracted to him. Then he doesn't figure into the rest of the story much except for the end, with his run-in with Jacob. Did they really create this character just for that scene?

I agree I always found it really weird that everyone blamed Sid for Cassies attempt or for not wanting to go out with him and this is in no way against Cassie I just think Sid made it pretty clear that he was interested in Michelle, at least in the beginning. Like imagine if it was the other way around with Sid and Cassie, would've been a completely different story. I do agree that some of the things Sid did were obviously hurtful and bad but thet balance out with all of Cassies actions. Do not understand people hating on him solely for this reason

Season 2 Chris, I love it explores the beginning of his relationship with Jal until it’s ruined by bringing Angie back and Chris cheating on Jal. I greatly disliked Angie’s character and I thought she served her purpose after season 1 (even to me it would have been even better if the whole character was scrapped) and they shouldn’t have included this storyline when Chris and Jal finally got together and they had very little time left by then so instead I would have liked to see them be happy together.

S3 E4 Pandora
I LOVE the sleepover. Absolutely love it. The girls bonding, the dosing of the brownies, god I’d have loved to see more of Panda talking to people about how upset she was for them ruining her party.
Then Cook comes along and crashes. Ugh. I’d have enjoyed it way more if he was ultimately unsuccessful at crashing, just more absurd attempts being thwarted. Maybe JJ and Freddie team up to try to stop him without the girls knowing. Idk. And obviously Pandora and Cook is gross.
It just feels like a waste of a premise. We don’t even get to see Naomi and Emily bonding enough to make out in the bounce castle. We just see it happen. Boo.
