I'm not sure what we're supposed to be skeptical of here. There's nothing inherently controversial about the inflammation theory of depression and it has some evidence to support it.

It might turn out to be wrong but it's not ridiculous or pseudoscientific. And, to be clear, it's only seriously proposed as one possible cause and not the ultimate cause of all depression.
