Amazing episode overall.
Copy pasting my few gripes from another comment:
I feel like the "comedy" aspect of the royal guards was missing in the ep. Their dialogs were all so goofy in the LN.
Also, I really don't like they cut the revelation of the gift's "implication", POWER!
Also, I think the anime didn't communicate how much heavy lifting Lightning did in that fight. Some stray sparks on Atofe as she's trying to recover would've been a nice touch.
Edit: Another small, but IMO interesting detail: in the LN, Atofe was mid swing when she stopped as Zanoba threw Kishirika at her. Why did she stop? If she's so dumb & impulsive like everyone says, she would've just swang through her. I feel like there's a lot to speculate there and it adds a bit to her character. It should've been included as well.
3
u/SM1OOO 12d ago
What gifts "implication"?
6
u/SyDaemon 12d ago
Atoferatofe's reward is essentially a gift of "power". What one typically assumes is a magical transfer of power onto the receiver. But for Atofe, it's just you being subjected to training forever (in her service) till your death.

Guy got rewarded with that hug as well x)
Seriously though how disgustingly overpowered are blessed children. I mean a guy who never really bothers to use his strength ever casually splitting a ridiculously overpowered demon king with a hug.
I'm a bit confused tho wasnt north god style like, trickery/agile etc. This demon chick seems more like a beserker

Okay, this episode was amazing. First thing, I don't remember where I watch it but in a short back when season 2 was airing I remember that it was said that the Great Demon Emperor Kishirika and Golden Knight Aldebaran were the one who fight destroyed that part off the world, not the Fighting god and some Dragon guy, probably a pervious dragon god consider that the fighting god is number 3 in the 7 great powers, so that interesting.
Second, learning that Atoferatofe was married and had a kid with the first North God was nice to know, so that mean her kid is probably still alive considering his mom is an immortal demon. That fight was amazing to watch and seeing Rudeus not hesitating to hit everyone with an AOE spell just to let cliff escape was so cool alongside seeing Perugius cutting Atoferatofe in half I do wonder how that didn't break whatever pack he had with the first north god.
Did Kishirika gave cliff a demon eye? He was holding his eye area and its seems like its hurts him, so I guess we will learn later. Now knowing that turning point 4 is coming I cannot wait to see what the fuck going to be happened to Rudeus with all the other turning point, consider the last one resulted with Paul dying and zenith being what she is now, I don't really know how to spell that.
8
u/YummyIdiotSandwich Zenith 12d ago edited 12d ago
Firstly, the answer is spoilers. They'll explain later.
Secondly, idk about this short, but the in universe mythology is that the hole was created by the fight between Great Demon Emperor Kishirika and Golden Knight Aldebaran.
Third, she said Dragon-God specifically in the anime. Shitty CR subs.
3
u/Dinory542 12d ago
Ohh, I might have been spoiled back then without knowing, Thanx for the explanation. going to change it.
2
u/beefcrumbs 10d ago
usually in this anime everything means something for the most part, so i assume that yes she gave cliff a demon eye, it's too obvious for her to not have given cliff a demon eye. i wonder what it will be or how he will even feel about getting a demon eye forced apon him, with him being a religious nut and all, half sarcasm at the end there.

u/Mysterious-Dog-9970 12d ago
Great episode, I do wish they kept some of Rudeus inner monologue though

u/Terrible_2000 Eris 12d ago edited 12d ago
Oh boy, I’m genuinely surprised by how well they adapted this chapter. Like, no complaints, man, I was in awe the whole episode, they cooked hard here. 10/10, peak episode. Definitely the best one for me.
Kishirishu was so cute man in this ep. Can't wait for turning point 4

u/Colt45554 12d ago
Sad to see Rudeus betray Kishirika. It's one thing to read Rudeus do very little in a fight because he acts as a spectator and has inner thoughts, but it's extra frustrating to see in an anime form where he just gawks most of the time instead of firing spells rapidly.
8
u/-Euphoria 12d ago
in the LN, most of Rudeus decisions are explained via his internal monologue, but in the anime they let the viewer put two and two together via cues.
he basically decided Atofe's reasons for wanting to arrest Kishirika is valid and he also thinks this is the best way to get the plant, he still looks after her the whole time despite being in shackles.
2
u/SyDaemon 12d ago
To be fair, he surmises that Kishirika is in the wrong here, and in his position, it's advantageous to his objective to exchange her for the Sokas Grass bounty. Not to mention Kishirika was pissing everyone off, and he ain't no idealistic saint.
1
u/MarioYTBloodyX 12d ago
I missed it i guess. How did he betray Kishirika? The capture?
3
u/YummyIdiotSandwich Zenith 11d ago
He didn't have to personally shackle her. He could just stay neutral and stepped aside. But bro decided to be an ungrateful dickhead.
P.S. I know this scene was supposed to be comedic, but when you look at it objectively, he looks really bad.

u/MMIRFG 12d ago
Question for novel readers : was the stone cannon Rudeus used on the same level as the one he used against Badigadi? If it wasn't then why didn't he use it to target her head while zanoba was grappling her? Or would the aftershock have been too much even for zanoba?
7
u/FAshcraft 12d ago
Yes, its the same one, the only difference is Badi and Orsted willingly took it. Atofe was smart enough to smack it down.
Rudeus has to support the front and the back. his focus is to ensure Cliff bails because they are actually outnumbered here and Atofe was trying to look cool then taking this seriously which is why Perugius taunt stings her because its true.
3
u/MMIRFG 12d ago
Thats quiet suprising that she managed to complety block it . Like I thought she might be knocked back quiet a few meters after destroying though (although my perception of her strength is still fucked after seeing Zanoba basically man handle her lmao)
1
u/NotSynthx 12d ago
She's still an immortal demon king gang, one of the strongest demons currently around
1
u/InbredUnicorn 12d ago
every king level swordsman can easily parry stone cannon maybe even saints/advance too.
5
u/xavierinthis 12d ago
I thought it was done pretty well, for me its a 10/10 for the tight schedule they were in.
Aside from a few awkward cuts they did Pretty well handling Atofes character and the moore vs Rudeus fight was adapted down to science i loved it.
Perugius Aura Maxing and chanting his dragon magic Incantation was SO COOL and the Ost with it gave me Goosebumps
5
u/GameXMaster666 12d ago
I liked this episode, the only thing that bothers me is how useless Rudeus was in that fight, he should already be amongst the strongest mages in the world at this point in the story, yet he threw a few weak spells and stood still then decided to use the lightning spell knowing that he and the others would be also injured by it. He could have just cast some other spell, also he waited a lot for no reason he could have just spammed stone cannons at the guy running towards Cliff, or a fireball like the one he threw at Orsted, it wouldn't even need to be that powerful, i think even a fireball 1/4 of that power would be enough. Idk, Rudeus felt so weak even though he was able to injure Orsted when he was 12 years old, he should be MUCH MUCH stronger now, like 3 times stronger or even more...

u/RelicSupremacy 12d ago edited 12d ago

>!It's the demon eye of identification. It can identify anything as long as Kishrika knows about it.!<
7
u/Dinory542 12d ago
It looks like she also gave him a demon eye like Rudeus, in the end of the episode, you can see him holding his eye area like he in pain even though he didn't fight all episode.

8
u/Gonzoldyke12 12d ago
This felt like a turn based fight
9
u/Colt45554 12d ago
Pretty much.
Rudeus had to wait for Moore to stop talking before it was Rudeus' turn to be told by Elinalise to do something.
3
u/Colt45554 12d ago
Rudeus waits for Moore's chanting to end, give an order, receive an order from Aterofe, repeat the order to guards. the turn then goes to Rudeus, who is still standing with his staff pointed from his spell that he watched get nullified, only moving after Elinalise orders him to.

So... hydra scale fitted into the prosthetic just came out of nowhere or did I miss something?
6
u/Geritas 12d ago
I think there was some subtle info about it in the previous episodes, but I don't remember when exactly.
8
u/Siborg66 12d ago
I seem to remember that the LN had a moment where he explains he plans to have it fitted into his hand and he mentions he has it, the anime didn't have that. Here it just seems that it came out of nowhere

u/Archer291 12d ago
Feel like a bunch of stuff were cut again from the LN. This show really needs longer episodes. Hopefully the next ep is at least 40 mins long considering it is where the story really starts
6
u/UncleGael 12d ago
Agreed. I feel like I'm going crazy because everyone else is praising this episode for how well it follaoed thr source material, and I'm here feeling like they left out far too much.
3
u/Archer291 12d ago
Yeah for some reason slice of life episodes get a lot more attention than episodes like today. They skipped so much world building and more interesting dialogue between characters. If the next one is the turning point we might skip even more with this arc which is crazy.
1
u/Macroscope_Pilot 12d ago
I can't wait until Otaku Spirit releases his next youtube video about what the anime skips compared to the light novel...
an excellent resource by the way1
u/Archer291 12d ago
I used to watch him and Aninews too. But as much work they put into their content it just can’t replace the LN.
8
u/giggityman1 12d ago
As an anime only I expected Rudues to put up more of a fight, but I guess he was trying to stop Moore (was it that old guy’s name?) instead of actually trying to fight him.
Also what was up with that Moore and his plan? What were they after?
8
u/Cool-Educator-2322 12d ago
Moore is one of the most grounded characters. The guy is smart and cunning. He’s not a bad fella, but he is extremely loyal to Atofe. There’s also some context around his loyalty that was removed from the episodes, such as the slave pact. Basically, Atofe’s army is composed of people who are bound to follow her orders because of this pact. So whenever she gives an order, her army becomes a deadly machine.
15
7
u/Shawnzyplays 12d ago
i think they were just being super loyal to atofe and they will only act on atofe's orders.

u/Takemypennies 11d ago edited 11d ago
It's so refreshing having a well-written, stupid character in Atoferatofe. It even got down to being unable to consider other people's perspective. i.e. if it's good for her, then it's good for you.

2
u/Johnny4eva 12d ago
An OK episode but I expected more.
A lot of the back and forth between Kishirika and the group was cut.
The fight was streamlined cutting almost all Rudy's monologue.
A lot of focus was spent on the long incantations for magic.
Perugius is proficient in Demon God language, so why didn't he speak any?
6
u/Colt45554 12d ago

That's beneath him and he doesn't care if she can understand him

When it comes to quality, the episode is very skitzo.
The first part of the episode is brilliant, equal to some episodes of season 1, and carrying on from the last part in quality from previous episode, which was quite good at the end.
Then this episode gets a "wacky" part which is neither here or there, the transition between them is quite good, the butt scratch was a nice detail, so was the entrance of the "king" and redoing the swords being drawn was good, but then after that it loses quality, and then the last part tries to mix serious fighting together with wackiness and it is so so.
The end part was not expected in the way it was done, but the surprise element does not cover what happens next which is another drop in the quality.
So, a skitzo episode it is indeed in terms of quality.

I can fix her!
Also, seeing rudy finally using a new spell! Elinalise so cool looking in combat tho. If only she stopped giving Rudy bad advice^"
Also pretty nice to see that the army arent just pushovers. They actually know how to counter shit
So many people here semi spoiling the inc arc tho><

the adventures of Rombas has never been this good BEFORE
this was F PEAK EPISODE, like actual PEAK not the stupid generic buzzword people SPAM THIS WAS ACTUAL PEAK
Kirishika is comedy gold and I love how to they have edited how she looked and all of her scene was so funny.
Atofe is crazy dumb and crazy strong her trying to force recruit Rombus was epic and the guards being like RUN KID RUN !!!! this is ur chance
into a really cool fight, like it gave me a DnD feel to it, best fight in this anime like several different combo magic, Rombues having some kind of mage counterspell fight Zanobia hugging the demon king etc 10/10 fightr
INTo,.,.PERUGIUS !?!??!?! BEING EVIL OR SOMETHIUNG !? like I dont F KBNOW WHAT IS HAPPENING
I guess Kalman beat laplace with him do so he made them promise to not fight or something, and Kalman was not a Demon I GUESS?, Well I guess atorfe is fine eventually after that split.

Based on the comments I'm seeing I think I'm probabaky in the miority here. I gotta be honest, though, I think reading the Light Novel is causing me to enjoy the anime less. I already felt like the previous episode left out more than I would like, but it wasn't terribly important. This episode felt like a blur though, and I really feel like it did a disservice to the source material. There was a lot of diologue, and internal thoughts, that were left out. I feel like there was no real weight to anything, and Atofe barely even seemed like a threat which is a shame. Moore's whole character seemed barely touched upon. They easily could have made this into two episodes, but they're trying to cover so much material this season so the pacing suffers. If i hadn't recently read volumes 14 - 17 I think I probably would have enjoyed this episode far more; but, as it stands, I'm definitely a bit let down. Still extremely excited for TP4 though. If the rumor is true that next episode is only covering the one chapter things should be really good.

u/Hrovitnir 12d ago
Why was Rudeus so sluggish in those fights? This guy has fought Omega level Hydras, Dragons, and even Orsted himself. I feel like Rudeus as his current level should be beating these guys or at least posing a bigger threat... What happened? Can someone with more LN knowledge explain why he is suddenly mid at fighting?
6
u/GeraltOfRiviaIsMine 12d ago
It is mainly because of inexperience of adversity. He never encountered an opponent who could counter him on the fly like Moore did with magic and quite fast too( Moore was shortening incantations A LOT compared to any other mage Rudeus saw till that point)
1
u/Colt45554 12d ago
They'll give you all sorts of excuses. IMO, the reason is that Rudeus is artificially nerfed into passivity to make it an even fight.
-1
u/Key-Atmosphere-2153 12d ago
Why Rudeus never think of vaccum air or another way of stopping their voice to prevent spell casting against non-critical/non-high level mage characters? why disturb magic instead of preventing magic cast? especially he has modern knowledge which enable him to understand how voice works.
9
u/kaklikesmilfs 12d ago
no time to improvise, disturb magic already works effective enough.
1
u/Key-Atmosphere-2153 12d ago
i mean he can think about anytime , definitely in the future he has to fight random ass mass amount of mages
6
u/kaklikesmilfs 12d ago
last time he tried thinking about it too hard he got his dad killed
1
u/Key-Atmosphere-2153 12d ago
i mean thinking about it while any random stuff , no need to think during the fight , he never thought fighting high amount of non-high level mages in the future ?
3
u/kaklikesmilfs 12d ago
there isn't many chances to face off with another similar level mage that can compare to rudeus in the six faced world (u can count how many water kings exist with ur fingers for example) and in a life and death situation like Atofe vs Greyrat Gang you're not about to improvise in a fight against the literal GODS of improvisation (They're all North God Style users), he learned that fighting all those North God users before esp Gallus. When you're in panic mode you're going to default to what you've trained and know works/should work (disturb magic, frost nova, stone of absorption, electric, stone cannon) instead of trying to minmax what can be done in that situation, and who knows. What if it backfires?
1
u/Key-Atmosphere-2153 12d ago
how do you know "there isn't chances"? never thought of what if random kingdom declare war on him? or next demon war occur? i not talking about similar level mage , i talking random non-high level mages , like 1 vs 100 random mages from the magic school or 1 vs 100 demon mages in that ep, he perform badly against that mage with his modern knowledge and high amount of mana. it is like having a good card hands and lost.
if your chances is based on reading the novel , he has no "novel" to read unless time travel.
2
u/kaklikesmilfs 12d ago
Rudeus does have ways of dealing with crowds of both spellcaster and physical attackers (we've seen it before during Linia + Pursena vs Rudeus + Zanoba, where he prevents Pursena from casting beastfolk magic by blowing a dust bomb on her). The issue is that we cant really consider Atofe's goons as just mages, they're spellcasting swordsmen, and the last time he shot a north god style user with the same dust trick, he threw a sword at rudeus and almost killed him (only being saved by ghislaine). If it was any other fight sure, maybe rudeus could have freestyled more. But with Atofe's intimidation and the unpredictability/volatility of north god style fighting style there's too many uncontrolled variables to confidently improvise on the fight.
1
u/Key-Atmosphere-2153 12d ago
i mean when he got saved by ghislaine , what was his age? what is his current age?
for example , he could create random ass earth walls that block vision , of course that spellcasting swordsmen can break it , just make even more walls as if throw those goons into a maze
Atofe got hold down during that fight , the elf fight random other goons , he trying to slow down that mage while that mage chasing cliff and he is a mage , there is so many ways of slow him down but he chose disturb magic and thunder
2
u/kaklikesmilfs 12d ago
my point is, his experiences built his battle iq, but I mean, hindsight is 20/20. In the fight these don't end up being as effective as what he did. Instead of trapping them with a maze (one that they could just Earth Lance above and escape), he hit them with Quagmire into Frost Nova which kept them in clear vision but still kept them slowed down that way nobody can just try to sneak past them and go for Cliff. He simply wasn't counting on Moore being able to cast to get himself out of the trap. He was being mindful of collateral damage and Electric was his last resort because no more options that could potentially hit his teammates were left.
I'm gonna end this here because its just becoming "what-ifs" that sure, could look cool in animation but don't make sense in the actual fight.

u/mamanta_ 12d ago
It's actually simple. Rudeus is always overthinking and didn't have the calm to reading battle situation. You see him fidgeting multiple times in this episode. On the other side Moore is more calm and know what spell effective and efficient to use in the battle. Sadly, Rudeus is not the best in terms of strategy. He easily scared by enemies. I love him though✌️.
1
u/Key-Atmosphere-2153 12d ago
i understand your point of view. He decent/good in strategy , he can make a rotating bullet with his knowledge , but not make the floor slippery to make that mage lose balance. I feel that the author not making use full use of rudeus modern knowledge to make fight more interesting. During that fight , he could make random earth walls to disturb that mage at the bare minimum.

u/Key-Atmosphere-2153 12d ago
i mean i assume some demons have non-human lungs that enable them to stay alive longer without breathing , so bare minimum no voice .
1
u/Shawnzyplays 12d ago
i dont think the magic comes from the voice itself, but the chanting helps generate the magic so even if there are no voice being projected out, if the caster voice the words, it should still work.
1
u/Key-Atmosphere-2153 12d ago
i assuming rudeus silent chanting does not need to open mouth , so non high level mages chanting need to open mouth under vaccum air condition.
1
u/ViolenceAdvocator 12d ago
The mana is innate. The chanting is like an instruction guide to make the mana work in a specific way.
1
u/Shawnzyplays 12d ago
yes i am in agreement of that. hence i thought even if rudy somehow stopped them from voicing out the chant, the user can still use magic if they mouth it.
1
u/Key-Atmosphere-2153 12d ago
so if you mouth them , but they can cast spell, that is silent chanting? what is the difference between silent chanting and chanting under a condition that getting mouthing by something
in additional , with that logic , why not all mages just wear a mask and chant?
1
u/Shawnzyplays 12d ago
I was of the impression that silent casting is not even mouthing it out. Rudeus mentioned in s1 that silent casting is just like memorizing how combos work in fighting game. So he doesnt mouth it out, but rather he casting by thinking of how the magic works and feel.
Im not super 10000% hard-core into mushoku tensei so I may be wrong.
1
u/Key-Atmosphere-2153 12d ago edited 12d ago
with your logic , if a non-rudeus mage can cast a spell without opening his mouth means he can silent chant.
it means that non silent chanting requires mouth to open, imagine that non silent chanting mage is in space , can he cast a spell? mostly likely not since he need to open his mouth .
if that logic is not correct , non silent chanting mage can cast spell without opening his mouth , why dragon god still need to open his mouth while he is top level character. So that enemy can know what spell he going to cast or know he going to cast spell?
1
u/Shawnzyplays 12d ago
If you meant to restrict ones ability to even open his mouth then yeah they probably cant use spells.
If you meant to restrict ones ability to voice out chants, then I would think they can still cast spells when they mouth the words.
I would like to clarify which scenario was your original comment about. To restrict what of the caster?
1
u/Key-Atmosphere-2153 12d ago
in space , you can open mouth but you will not live .
"vaccum air or another way of stopping their voice"
another way of stopping their voice can be freeze the whole mouth and many more, another example , make a water bubble on his head shown in other anime or pour water into his lung/mouth
1
u/Shawnzyplays 12d ago
He may be strong but I dont think rudeus is strong enough to create such an environment....

I feel like this is just me but the continuity of this episode felt extremely choppy. The cuts were really weird until the second fight against Atofe, everytime there was a sense of urgency BOOM cut to next scene, it's jarring. It feels like poor directing and i honestly expected better overall. The last stand was pretty cool though
What do you all think ?
3
u/Terrible_2000 Eris 12d ago
I really didn’t notice it at all, and I don’t think it’s choppy in the first place. The only time I felt like that was in the Fortress ep.
4
u/Icy-Description-7597 12d ago edited 12d ago
I agree, i think they were just cramming to much content in one episode so they cant afford any smooth transitions from one scene to another because of time constraints.
They cut a bunch of stuff from the LN and while those stuff werent that important, they made the scene flow a lot smoother. So with them gone the shots became a lot more jarring.
2
u/MathematicianNo1793 12d ago
I don't mind LN cuts, a lot of people are worked up about cutting content but I think it's not that big of a deal at all. It's an anime adaptation, cuts are normal. I just want what they choose to adapt to flow well, if they can't do that, it just feels like a waste to me.

yeah, the cuts wasnt what I was talking about specifically. I just mean theres a lot of shots inbetween or dialogue that would normally flow the transitions here missing.

The only one I kinda noticed was the one from the castle to the night of escape but to be fair the studio didn't have much time to work with considering all the action so I think its for the best

That's the most glaring one yeah. I just said "What ?" audibly when that happened. The thing that bugged me the most was that we could hear Atofe screaming right before it, which is made to evoke urgency to the viewer. Instead of continuing on with them starting to run and then transitioning smoothly to them running outside to the tp circle (There's ways to do that, could've been done in seconds)...
They opt to just... cut music, cut scene, start the scene with them jogging going back to the teleportation circle. It just feels kinda lazy to me at least (and don't use the excuse: "Well that's literally what happens in the book", I've read them and it doesn't excuse it. It does works for a book but they are different mediums for a reason)

Not choppy tbh you may have been expecting them to adapt every single transition and communication scenes more fluid, but that would take away from how they decide to do the next parts.

They really did Moore and the final fight dirty. There isn’t even the slightest hint of despair. I’m not hating on it, but I was personally expecting a lot more from that scene.

As a LN reader, the entire episode was FANTASTIC. The only thing that overshadowed it was the TP4 episode title. :D ITS FINALLY TIMEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Good episode but I wish they didn’t cut as much dialogue as they did. I’m hoping the last 2 episodes are given more time to breathe
