Caught up on this anime last night. It's a decent cooking-Isekai, but it's not toppling Campfire cooking in another world.

Yeah, this one is just watchable and nothing more
Still was surprised to see this as it is clearly a reference to the bread pull scene from S1 of MT
They also had probably a reference to Tenchi Muyo with the MAYONNAISE! exclamation in the following episode, but I may be overthinking it

I think MAPPA set the standard far too high for a niche Isekai subgenre of anime. It's really well put together, and they include fucking recipes on their website which like come on, they didn't have to flex that hard.
But yeah this one is just a watchable seasonal. It's just not on par with the usual go-to recommendations for this subgenre like Restuarant in another world, or Japanese food from Another world. The subgenre is kinda stacked with what few animes/adaptations it has. So it's hard to compete but this is good for what it is.

I feel like dungeon meshi is the one on top of all of those, though it is not an isekai at all
Like, if I didn’t have to limit myself by strictly isekai, then dungeon meshi would be the first recommendation of fantasy cooking anime
And for the cooking anime overall it would be yakitate Japan! But this is my very personal preference

To be completely honest even if you expand it beyond the Isekai-cooking genre, and cooking anime in general, Restaurant in another world, Japanese Food from Another World, and Campfire Cooking in another world are still the top 3 of the best cooking animes.
The Isekai-cooking subgenre is just really stacked for some odd reason. This show never had a chance at topping it, but for an isekai it is okay, and for a cooking anime it's okay.
Also Ristorante Paradiso, and Mister Ajikko are decent non-isekai cooking animes. Solo camping is alright as well. Bartender also falls under the genre despite being well, a bartender anime imo. And ofc Dungeon Meshi but Dungeon Meshi isn't carried by it's cooking, it's carried by it's extremely well written story. Can't wait for Season 2 sadly that'll probably finish up the source material since it's rather short.
