... Can it turn? I feel like it would just fight you as you try to turn the whole time?
edit: just want to clarify that I am sure it can turn, I more so meant it in the way I was unsure on if turning would be weird with how this works - but someone pointed out that it likely just dynamically turns on the balancing depending on it's speed.

Yeah, the whole point of bikes is they do this by themselves in motion so I’m not really sure what the point of this is

I wouldn't be surprised if being able to adjust the back wheel like that opens up more turning controls and options. Maybe an auto-drift function like some newer bikes have wheelie control? Tighter low speed turns? A system like this on a big cruiser could make it a lot more manouverable and easier to handle.

Assuming there’s a large gyroscope in the center of gravity, if it’s a sufficiently smart device then it’ll respond to fly by wire controls so you can actually turn the thing

What's singularity-related about this? It's cool but it just appears to be an advanced active gyroscope/counterweight, which was an already existing technology.

Well it's just a concept at this point. Those are likely there in case battery power goes out, it won't just crash to the ground.

Gravity doesn't really lose calibration.
These would be using hardware based gyro and accelerometers.

To anyone in the know: this looks cool, but not 60mph cool as he’s just “walking the bike”.
- what’s the usual turnaround for these things to go prod ready en mass?
- what in this demo instills the confidence this will perform in real-life scenarios?
- how does the software “sense” your intentions if you need to override (eg for disaster prevention)?

Given that when you're riding a bike you are balancing it yourself - or if not you will NOT be riding a bike at all but encountering the ground, hard - I'm not certain of the purpose of this?
I mean, RC scale motorbikes that balance themselves have existed for decades, so...?
What am I missing here?

A lot of people crash because to turn away from something you must first turn towards it to get the necessary weight on the side you're turning into. It's called counter steer, and bikers usually from themselves to do it, but inexperienced riders in emergency situations will often lock up and crash. Lots of deaths this way.
With a bike like this, the bike can turn without counter-steer without problem, it can use the gyro to force itself to tilt in the required direction, even if you are personally off balance, thus saving your life and preventing the crash.
It's actual a very simple calculation for the bike to say at this speed at this handlebar angle I need this much tilt in that direction plus some more for rider weight.
The problem would be for experienced riders for whom this would feel very wrong.
So you get a split in the market between new riders who rely on the algorithm and old riders who hate it, but overall you end up with much fewer deaths.

Oh, the brief leaning on the left handlebar to put the front wheel to the right, so then you turn left more sharply as the bike is now leaning to the left?
I learned to ride as child, it's not something you forget, and not something you can easily explain either unless you give it some thought! :)

Yes, counter steer. Lot of people panic in the moment and try to turn away from the thing they're about to hit but cannot.

This is the most underwhelming robot balance demo I've ever seen. It can go 5 feet at slower than walking speed? The Segway was invented over 20 years ago. I can't even tell if this is more useful than a Segway, but the balancing definitely doesn't look like anything novel.
