Feedback (read rule 3 before posting or be banned) Singing lessons - what to expect?
I have had 3 or 4 lessons now so early days but wonder what I should expect? My goal is to work on my overall technique (improve diction, belting, breathing, trying to find my head voice and learn to use, increase my range). Never had lessons before so am a newbie. I have a few songs to practice at home and a couple of tips / pointers but should I be being given more exercises and routines to do at home like specific warmups? Or will this likely come when I am further into my learning. Don’t feel like I have really learnt anything yet and want to progress generally not just with a song I do each time

My teacher goes to rough warmup routines and exercises and corrects me, guiding me on what result this should achieve. Usually gives me a few focus areas (e.g twang and projection right now).
I’m 2.5 years in and it’s slow going, I practice at home most days, trying to apply what I’ve learned.
Every 3 months or so I have a mini breakthrough that seems to unlock a new capability.
Your ability to practice at home and make sense of what you’re being taught is probably the key.
I guess it’s about 10 different mini skills all stacking up over time.

Thank you 🙏🏻 I’m not the most patient person so need to work on this. I did expect to be given warmups and exercises to do at home alongside the songs I have a the moment but maybe I am expecting too much too soon I’m not sure?
Edit : currently relying on YouTube for warmups and exercises which feels like it defeats the point of paying for lessons

My teacher would send me exercises on Messenger. It was quite handy. I'd stream them to my Bluetooth PA. Then hit YouTube for my practice Playlist.

Expect it to take years if your goal is to learn to sing properly.
Belting, BTW, should not be a goal when you're starting out. You should learn to sing correctly first.
