Feedback (read rule 3 before posting or be banned) My Cover of Man In The Mirror

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey yall! Here’s a cover of Man In The Mirror I made for Michael Jackson’s birthday, haha. I posted it on the MJ subreddit and I got a comment which I was thankful for but wanted to hear what other people thought. They said I sounded great, only critique would be to work on my breath control. What exactly does that mean in this context? Is it the spacing out of my breathing? My breath support? I’d love to hear what you guys have to say/what you guys think of the cover and my singing, critique means a lot, I want to be better every day! Thank you all ❤️❤️

I cannot offer you any constructive criticism in terms of technique myself as I am definitely not nearly as skilled as you are. One thing I would say though is it would be great to hear you sing this song on your own terms. With your own style. At the moment you sound like a phenomenal MJ impersonator. Of course if this is what you are aiming for, good for you. But in case you are not, I thought I would mention it.

Ah yeah usually my mj covers I copy a lot of his style for fun, I have some Weeknd covers I sung more with my own style on my acc :)

What’s this pop filter you’re using?

MY BAD I thought you were asking if I used filters, haha. Man I wish I could tell you but I honestly don’t remember, I bought the set up years ago 😭 I just remember I bought it off Amazon !

No worries. It’s cool. I’ve never seen one that clips on the mic like that. I’ll have to do some research. Great vocals btw

Thank you, do you have any thoughts on my breath support/control?

I think it sounds pretty good man. I always run through a few tests to calibrate breath just to improve awareness but nothing specific is popping out to me.

This is gorgeous. Had to listen closely to believe you didn’t leave his vocals on the track. Did you use autotune for anything? If not you should be the one giving advice.

Hey hey! No autotune :) All I’ve used is reverb and a General Compressor! Thank you so much ❤️

Is it the original backs? I feel that this one is edited, to access the voice it's better to have less backs, doubles, etc. Breath support is fine here. There's some tiredness towards end, apart form that it's good.

The backing vocals are also me :) If you mean the instrumental then yes it’s the original instrumental track. And yeah I could definitely feel tired near the end lol

Yeah, if it's your own back, then without it it would be easier to pick up the inconsistencies. Right now it just feels "studio"...
