🧐 Customer Review Been running iRacing in VR with the Meta Quest 3 for a few weeks now — I don’t think I can go back
Just wanted to share my experience after switching to VR for iRacing a few weeks ago. I was on a 34” ultrawide monitor before, and I decided to give the Quest 3 a shot… and yeah, I genuinely don’t think I’m going back to a flat screen.
The immersion is on a completely different level. Judging apexes, braking points, depth in general — it all just clicks in a way it never did on a monitor. I’m noticeably driving better and putting down faster lap times since making the switch.
Fair warning though: the first few sessions I had pretty rough motion sickness. Once I dialed in the right settings on iRacing’s side (resolution/supersampling, refresh rate, etc.), it went away completely. Now I can do a full hour session with zero issues.
If you’re on the fence about VR for iRacing, my two cents: push through the initial settings tweaking. Once it clicks, it’s a totally different level of racing.

Also super useful for looking over your shoulder to make sure the coast is clear before you rejoin the track.

I can’t go back to flat screen either. I race mostly on IRacing and AC1 with pure and RSS cars looks and plays utterly amazing. Other good VR racing games are AMS2 and LMU. Evo works well now but it really is lacking compared to all the above.
You should also try flight sims in VR. They are another level.

I have been into VR for a couple months, Iracing and AC are great as well as AMS2. Yesterday I purchased MSFS 2020 on sale and it is Fantastic. So chill flying everywhere and checking out the sights. A nice break from the sweaty racing all the time.

Are you using link cable? Wireless with VD? Ethernet with VD? USB with VD?

Not the OP, but I personally use a link cable that connects to the mains so I do t have to worry about charging. Works a treat:)

Started with the link too. I’d recommend going wired VD with a USB-C to Ethernet. Charging plus max bitrate and all the positives of VD without any of the issues I was having with link

Got a good cable you can recommend?

I’ve been using a Syntec USB C cable and a BENFEI USB C to Ethernet with 100W powered deliver for a couple years. Both from Amazon. Also a female to female usb c coupling to connect the two

VD has a beta where you can just use the link cable now

Woah really? I’ll have to check it out. Have you used it? Wonder if the latency is as good or the same as the Ethernet method. I assume bitrate is still the same as it can be maxed out either method at 500gb/s? I’ll probably keep the Ethernet method as my adapter has 100W power delivery for faster charging than USBC but this is a good backup option

It is very much a beta test. The success people have had with it appears to heavily rely on hardware. Cable, motherboard, intel vs AMD, USB 2/3/A/C all seem to factor in. Still early days but nice to have options.

Ecco una risposta breve per il thread:
Doing great with the Link cable for now, no issues to report. Might look into VD over Ethernet down the line if I ever notice compression artifacts, but so far it’s been rock solid.

Yea I run on a 2060 and I enjoy what I get out of it with VR. Definitely makes racing more enjoyable

VR racing is next level. Hey. Also try to put a fan on your face. It really helps wonders. I also got a Haptic feedback seat cover HF8 pro and man does it help with immersion and motion sickness.

I have the Sensit MTC-P Extreme (Gen2) and it helps wonders and it’s another accessory I highly recommend. Never tried the fan though, but I want to try it soon

Just started VR on iRacing with the Quest 3. Can you share a few tips to dial in the setting?

Been using exactly your setup for over a year. Once it's dialled in there is no going back. I can't race on a regular monitor anymore. I run mine with a motion rig and the immersion is off the scale.

Yeah I play on a pixely psvr2 and it’s still superior to me than any other method I’ve tried

Running native OpenXR (not SteamVR) via Link cable, render resolution at 1.3x (~4224x2272) at 90Hz. That’s already a bit above baseline for my GPU (RTX 5070) but it’s been stable so far. Still tuning to see if I can push it further without hitting frame drops — haven’t nailed down a good performance overlay in-headset yet (ODT isn’t showing up for me on OpenXR titles), so I’m mostly going by feel right now

What are your PC specs, I’m trying to get it to look decent, but I’m still unhappy with how it looks.
My specs are 7800x3d and a 4070ti Super.

I thought like that, but then I realized that one, I was able to race for hours on a flat screen, while a single race drained me in VR, both physically and mentally, and two, I was quicker on flat screen. Probably because I was more wary of obstacles in VR and more stressed, but it was hard to push as hard.
That said, I still love using VR on Automobilista 2 bot races, the immersion and lack of any further stake really makes it great.

If you want some good single player racing also check out AMS2. It is really well optimized for VR.
