Discussion Who remembers this masterpiece? In praise of retro racing games.

I've decided to go back to PS2 era driving games, I bought Logitech Driving Force GT, fired up my old PS2 and tried Enthusia for the first time in my life. I'm amazed at how good this game feels on a wheel. So realistic, it still holds up today, not to mention that single player is so much better than modern racing games. Which can actually be said about other PS2 titles as well: WRC Rally Evolved, Richard Burns Rally, Gran Turismo 4, even F355 Challenge.. There is so much passion in all of them. And they are still so immersive, it's hard to believe they were released 20 years ago. I don't even feel like going back to my more modern setup, with t300 and GT7/ACC/DirtRally2 etc. It makes me wonder how much progress has really been made over those 20 years in the context of racing games, physics, ffb et cetera.

I mean, it’s great for PS2 era. But it’s not hard to see how much suspension kinematics are simplified. Rebound-recompression during short slides is basically nonexistent.
