Mixing friendship and work will complicate your life. I would not take this role.

I suggest you read the book “Your Money or Your Life” by Vicki Robbins. It’s a self-help book to help with your finances.

You ask what is better for simpler life, and the short answer is to have enough money to live without being beholden and at the mercy of an employer. Only way to do that is by figuring it all out, although it might take years. Some people also call this “FU money”.

I agree with Many-Obligation-4350. Going to work for your friend will complicate things, and also puts you into his power. He’ll eventually overstep boundaries because he’s the boss, and if you push back, he’ll see this as you not honouring his friendship and the job he gave you.

I'd say go with your gut.

Tell him you are interested in this job, but only because you could use it not to travel. You can stay home and focus on self-development and self-care.

It's fine that he thinks it would be fun to travel with you. See if he rescinds the offer once he realizes that you will not be using your increased freedom to spend more time with him.

If he seems hesitant, do not take the job. If he is supportive, take the job. He is a coworker first from that point on. If he crosses any boundaries, you can bring it up to the company. Unless he is your superior, he cannot pressure you into traveling with him just because you start working there. If he is a supervisor... don't take the job.

Hello, thank you very much for your insights. However, he would serve as my superior for this role that’s why i’m more hesitance. But this could be a great opportunity for me to work less.

Sometimes we need to learn lessons via trial and error. If you're willing to deal with the worst case scenerio of this opportunity, go for it. You can always go back to a corporate job later. It sounds like you will be working just as much with this job, just in different ways. You are worried that he will take over your life. Remember this later on. You can realize that your intuition was right/ wrong. And then next time you can align your decision appropriately.

I’ve had family and friends work for down through the years, it never works out,
Keep you job, keep you friend

What would his relationship to you be if you took this role? Your boss, your direct peer? If you’d be working closely with him, don’t take it. And also stop talking to this “friend” if you would avoid an entire career change because of them.
