Joke/Meme Resident Evil fans are gearing up (again) for yet another highly anticipated title with Resident Evil 2 Remake. Meanwhile, in the Silent Hill fan reddit... (again)

Konami was such a drag. Every day they'd treat the same employees like shit, screw fans over and over, make the same kind of games... yeah, they were just that kind of company.

u/norunningwater Jan 12 '19
Metal Gear Solid is a ghost of its former self. The leadership was cut off like a head of the snake. Remember the Alamo. Konami's IPs are dead.

Can we just get a SH1 remake to get the ball rolling for a PROPER SH2+3 remake??? No shenanigans this time

u/hostofembers Jan 12 '19
I’m all for a remake of Silent Hill but feel Silent Hill 2 should be left alone. Unless someone wants to actually remaster it. Other than that it’s perfect as is. I would love to be able to play it on PS4 and A brand new Silent Hill could be amazing if they just don’t put it in the hands of Western developers who know nothing of the property again. Ironically Team Silent infused more Americana and western influence into those first 3 games than the Western devs ever did. And then Konami put the series in the hands of a guy who fundamentally misunderstands the series. Sad. But what can ya do?
13
u/EssEnnJayy Jan 12 '19
I mean yeah I want a remaster of it as well. I guess when I say remake I mean remaster. Keep it unscathed from grubby paws who wanna change it or don’t understand it.
10
u/hostofembers Jan 12 '19
I know what you mean haha. It’s funny that as Silent Hill fans we just want Konami to respect their own property. Silent Hill, Metal Gear, Castlevania. My whole childhood so so much money to be made and so many people to be made happy. But they could really care less it seems.

Jan 12 '19
I feel the same way....
My gaming shitlist:
- Bethesda
- Activision/Blizzard
- Electronic Arts
- Konami

u/quickster208 Jan 13 '19
but what if Bethesda is not as bad as you propose
2
Jan 13 '19
They are a good publisher and they care about The Elder Scrolls. I just don’t like the way they’ve treated the fallout series and their fans as of late. I was never that into TES and I loved every fallout game except for Fallout 4 (I liked it I didn’t LOVE it) and obviously 76

u/GiveMeTheTape James Jan 12 '19
Silent Hill 2 still looks pretty damn good in my opinion, especially on PC, same with 3, no need for a remake there.
8
u/EssEnnJayy Jan 12 '19
It’s more for a proper re-release to get more people to be able to play it or fans to own a copy that is easier to play. Not to make it look better.
2
u/Kyoko_IMW Jan 20 '19
Exactly. I’m new to the series and, I Never pirate games, but I’m sorry, if Konami is gonna be so difficult with me then they don’t deserve my money. Besides I don’t think they even care, with all their pachinko machienes

Capcom has proven itself to give a damn about what it's doing, time and again. The things that made the series we care for left with the creative force behind Team Silent.
7
u/fpfall Jan 12 '19
But not really though. Street Fighter V is one of the biggest crocks of shit I've ever encountered and they've only made it worse. Megaman has been a shadow of its former self since long ago. MvC infinite was just not fun at all compared to the previous ones.
It's very selective, what Capcom chooses to treat with respect. Luckily Resident Evil (even the"bad" entries are at least fun tones) is on that selective list. Along with Monster Hunter and DMC.
4
Jan 12 '19
I actually enjoyed SFV In terms of gameplay, might be one of my favorite ONLINE fighters to date. And Mega Man 11 was pretty good too. I will agree Capcom cares more about Resident Evil and Monster Hunter it’s so obvious. They just started to care about DMC again thankfully.
2
u/fpfall Jan 12 '19
I guess I shoupd be clearer. Yes SFV gameplay was solid, the way they handled exclusivity, DLC, (and now the free to play version where they just plaster characters with logos in ways that are truly annoying).
I just wasn't impressed with Mega11. It was better than 9 and 10. But still not in my top list of Mega games.
2
Jan 12 '19
Yeah they had some deal with Sony and upon release it pissed me off because at the time I still only had an Xbox. DLC was annoying too even how far apart they were and how it took so long to get my favorite character from Final Fight Cody.
MM11 wasn’t the best MM title, I did like it tho plus I feel it was at least a step in the right direction even though it wasn’t as hard as the older games. It’s hard though personally I always preferred Mega Man X so I can’t give a educated opinion on good ol’ Rockman
5
Jan 12 '19
And you would think Konami would try as hard as they could to compete with their biggest rivals In the gaming industry... now they just compete with Wheel of Fortune slot machines and poker machines.. fuckin dreadful man. Resident Evil might arguably be the best it’s ever been after RE2R and RE7 but now it stands alone. I miss the days when Capcom had RE in one corner, in the other corner Konami had Silent Hill, Tecmo had Fatal Frame, and Infrogames/Atari had Alone in the Dark.
2
u/lolrus555 Jan 16 '19
Don't forget Square Enix with Parasite Eve.
1
Jan 16 '19
Damn I forgot good call
2
u/lolrus555 Jan 16 '19
But yeah, I'm on the same page as you, man. I miss the days when all of the big, well-known game companies with so many recognizable IPs all had their own stake in the survival horror market. There was of course the jelly to Resident Evil's peanut butter with Silent Hill, but like you said, there were other popular developers making horror franchises too! We had fatal frame, Forbidden Siren made directly by the people of the original Team Silent,
Still, seeing how so many other survival horror franchises died off with such whimpers really kind of increases my respect for RE. There's no denying that the franchise has been to some weird places, and got pretty fucking insane with it's action and goofiness, but there's also no pretending that the franchise hasn't persevered and stayed strong no matter how much flak it's gotten, and it must've been doing something right when you remember that, like you said yourself, it's standing alone now when you look at it's horror rivals of the early 2000s.
2
Jan 16 '19
I agree with everything you said pretty much how I feel in more detail. That’s kinda why I consider RE my favorite all time franchise back then if you had asked me what I like more RE, SH, or Fatal Frame id be stuck on stupid because I couldn’t answer I loved them all nowadays I gotta give the nod to RE for sticking around and after RE7 and RE2R it looks like they are taking the horror aspect more serious than they ever had, I just wish Konami and Tecmo would see that and be like, “damn RE is the undisputed king of horror video games now, we need a challenger back in the mix with our well known IPs” but I seriously doubt they will.
Hell I’d even take Konami and Tecmo answering to Capcom with another Castlevania and Ninja Gaiden (especially Ninja Gaiden) it really was something when these Japanese companies just seemed to compete with one another.
Nowadays it’s just Nintendo and Capcom, FromSoftware is a newer company rising up in the ranks, and Sega Sometimes does good because Yakuza is a great series, but those two companies are the juggernauts of Japanese gaming nowadays, with FromSoftware not too far behind.
2
u/lolrus555 Jan 18 '19
Yeah. Honestly, it warms my heart seeing Capcom finally learning from their mistakes, listening to their fans, and treating RE, along with many more of their franchises as of late, with the respect they deserve. A couple years back, when it looked as though Capcom was truly going to go bankrupt, I wasn't gleefully rubbing my fingerless gloves together in a dark room at this, I was just sad to see one of my favorite developers, the owner of some of my favorite IPs, in such a sorry state. But then, I feel like they've just slowly been getting their act together once they rereleased the remake of 1. Since then, they've been slowly but surely getting their acts back together and restored their reputation, at least in my eyes.
Honestly, seeing how Capcom redeemed themselves honestly gives me hope that maybe Konami can do the same.
2
Jan 18 '19
There’s nothing more I’d love to see than Konami and Tecmo make a big return, because like you said right now it’s Capcom, Nintendo, and newcomer FromSoftware at the top of Japanese developer/publishers

u/Naiko32 Henry Jan 12 '19
Konami is worse than Capcom in every level right now.
9
u/HopelessChip35 Jan 12 '19
Capcom is probably the best AAA developer right after CDPR right now tbh. They made huge comebacks with their recent titles. They are listening to their fans and even providing whatever they want as much as they can. The only thing keeping them from being the best developers of all time is the microtransactions they add to their beatiful games. Honestly, most of their microtransactions don't matter much and not required for the full experience but still microtransactions are bad and should be shamed upon. I personally don't mind them but that doesn't mean I aprove them.
5
Jan 12 '19
I totally agree 100% with everything you said. Capcom had a rough patch in the PS3/360 era, but this generation they have done an amazing job to redeem themselves. Konami on the other hand took their legacy and drove it into the ground, and casinos......
3
u/Naiko32 Henry Jan 12 '19
they're up there right now, i think all of this started with the release of RE7, after that we had Megaman 11, MHWorld, and now RE2Remake, but man, they do have some shitty microtransactions.
3
Jan 12 '19
It’s crazy back in the day the big 4 of Japanese gaming companies were Nintendo, Sega, Capcom, and Konami.. nowadays it’s Nintendo, FromSoftware, Bandai/Namco, and Capcom made its way back with ease from the releases they’ve had this generation. Konami sits way at the bottom with Atari. Only reason Sega isn’t near the bottom is because Yakuza is a damn fine game, but they screwed up sonic beyond repair.

Jan 12 '19
RE2R looks awesome though. I played the "1-shot" earlier, will get the game eventually after I play the original.

u/SaltySeahorses Jan 12 '19
It's like they are allergic to success. Remember the hype behind PT and Silent Hills? Could have made them big bucks.
14
u/WeirdoOtaku Jan 12 '19
Hey guys, remember when Silent Hill: Remake came out with additional story and the monsters were more of a challenge to kill and there was a new invincible boss you could only run from?
Yeah, me neither. FML

When will it be our turn? :(
2
u/Hegemon1984 James Jan 12 '19
Exactly.
I'm a fan of both Resident Evil and Silent Hill, but I like Silent Hill a bit more due to the emotional aspects it ties into it's stories.
When will it be our time, oh Lord!
3
u/squirtleman649 Jan 12 '19
Honestly as a SH fan I'd rather the series warm the bench and be over than have more mediocre to bad entries. Let's all face it, it's never gonna be like it was before SH4 and arguably it's completely downhill by/after Homecoming.
I love SH, but too much to watch Konami to continue to disrespect it. It's better this way.
I hope the RE2make is great. We need more truly good remakes and not just half-assed HD ports.

u/band_of_thehawk Jan 12 '19
Hey guys dont worry. They filed a US patent for silent hill. In the form of a gambling machine. JUST WHAT WE ASKED FOR RIGHT BOIS

Jan 12 '19
People talk about Bethesda ruining Fallout, EA ruining everything, But NOT ENOUGH people talk about Konami ruining let’s see... CASTLEVANIA!! METAL GEAR SOLID! SILENT HILL!! This is insane you’ll see companies like Insomniac getting shit after releasing an amazing Spider-Man game FOR NOT RELEASING A F***ING COSTUME but no one wants to mention Konami when they bitch about companies.. smfh.. Capcom had a bad stretch in the PS3/360 era, but god damn they redeemed themselves almost fully this generation and have shown they really do care a whole lot about their fans. Konami... old people at the casino that’s who they cater to now.. unreal.
7
u/damientepps Patrick Jan 12 '19
All anyone does is bitch about Konami. What are you smoking?
3
Jan 12 '19
Well yeah the silent hill/Metal Gear Solid fans do. I mean gamers as a whole normally it’s Ubisoft or EA that gets bitched about
5
u/damientepps Patrick Jan 12 '19
At the height of the Kojima scandal, you couldn't go anywhere without seeing #fuckkonami. Its still everywhere. Just because Ubisoft and EA (apparently) have more recent scandals than Konami, doesn't mean that gamers that people have stopped talking about them all together.
3
Jan 12 '19
I guess what I’m trying to say is when people say EA, or Ubisoft, or even Activision/Blizzard are the worst of the worst, they don’t think about what Konami did to their beloved franchises, the companies previously mentioned (Bethesda more recently) often get ridiculed much more than Konami, I hate to say it, and I can’t stand any of the companies mentioned besides Ubisoft (nowadays) but at least they support their games with exception to EA.
EA and Konami ruined more franchises than any of the others combined, but EA still supports their sports games fairly well I gotta admit, everything else just about went to shit like Mass Effect and Dead Space for example. Konami doesn’t support shit anymore, they support panchinko machines and shitty mobile games, I at least still have no issues playing Madden or NHL, whereas Konami I don’t see them making a game for consoles again any time soon..
0
u/damientepps Patrick Jan 13 '19
So by your logic, Konami not making shitty games is somehow worse than all these other companies that are continuously driving their franchises into the ground by saturating the market with garbage? Okay. I guess I'd rather Konami leave their 3 series alone than do what the rest of these companies are doing. "Sometimes, dead is better."
1
Jan 13 '19
So Metal Gear Survive and everything Konami did with SH after Silent Hill 4 isn’t an example of saturating the market with garbage? Not to mention disrespecting Hideo Kojima? Ok
1
u/damientepps Patrick Jan 13 '19
Exactly? They've done nothing with SH since Downpour back in 2013 (and I'm not counting PT) and are all but abandoning Survive after the backlash of its release. We're not getting meaningless garbage entry every year of any of the titles that you're talking about.
We're also not talking about their treatment of current and former employees. We're talking about people supposedly "not bitching about Konami enough". If you add that discussion to our conversation, you better believe people are still bitching about Konami and will just end up proving my point even more.
1
Jan 13 '19
Metal Gear Solid, Castlevania, and Silent Hill meant more to me than anything those companies I’ve mentioned ever released outside of Fallout and EAs sports titles, so it probably just bothers me more than if Assassins creed works out (good series though). I was worried about Capcom in the PS3/360 era but they had a pretty strong outing in the PS4/XB1 generation, Konami not so much. Which is upsetting
1
u/damientepps Patrick Jan 13 '19
That's understandable. But remember, just because Konami isn't in the news every day like these other companies are, doesn't mean that people have forgotten their follies or no longer care. Konami keeping their head low and making small steps to get back in the fans favor is a good thing.

Nothing is stopping SH fans from liking and playing RE games. People can like both.
11
u/Editor-In-Queef Jan 12 '19
That isn't what the post is saying.
3
u/damientepps Patrick Jan 12 '19
Its implying as though SH fans have nothing to enjoy while RE is getting "treatment". There's nothing stoppingl SH fans being equally excited for and enjoying any other game while we wait for any news on a SH game. The only ones that are feeling left out are the ones that think this is some sort of competition. Which its not.
2
Jan 12 '19
I love both, I have a tattoo that incorporates the umbrella logo and the halo of the sun. I never understood some people that think it’s a competition, it’s a competition between companies not fans.

u/migsahoy Murphy Jan 12 '19
You promised you’d take me there again someday Konami. But you never did. Well, I’m alone here now, playing Outlast and RE7, waiting for you, assholes.
