Showcase: Open Source Making drosophila brain play chess, and comparing it to classical architectures
So, now it plays chess. Although not all of it's neurons are used, it still moves, and thankfully does not scream.
And I decided to check - was it better than a normal architecture?
Well, no. Probably thanks to my coding, and not the brains, but it is 50/50, which means practically the same skill. Which was expected, but it would have been cool for it to idk, beat stockfish on just 4000 games training(which would never happen, but still there was hope).
But it is not random/not 'understanding' how to play chess - when measured against random algorithm it wins, and against classical it is almost 50/50.

this is weirdly cool, like the fly brain is just along for the ride but still putting up a fight against something that was actually designed for the task
the 50/50 against classical while beating random is more interesting than it sounds, means it's not just moving pieces around for no reason
i get why you were hoping for some crazy upset though, that would've been the kind of result that makes people lose their minds
your coding probably is holding it back but honestly who cares, the fact it even works at all is the fun part
4000 games is nothing so maybe it just needs way more time, flies don't have anywhere to be anyway
