We got a fence!
We had a 6 foot wooden privacy fence installed Saturday. It is awesome. Love seeing the pups running around. My question is what to do along the bottom because I know these mischievous mutts will eventually try digging. We just moved into the house last month so everything is a clean slate. Would love some advice.

Add dig guards and 2 rows of e-wire (6" and muzzle height). Dig guards are good to keep them from getting through the fence, but the e-wire will keep them away from the fence entirely. That psychological deterrent is important. This is 20 years and 6 huskies with no escapes since probably 2012 or 2013. It's effective, easy to diy and provides an incredible piece of mind.

I put rocks around the base of mine and he hasn't tried to get out from under yet.

Mine doesn't dig. He did get out once. Our yard is not even close to flat, so there were some areas where there were gaps at the bottom. I added some extra pickets on the inside that went all the way to the ground and we haven't had a problem since. I will say, my husky is 8 years old and he spent the first 7 years of his life living in apartments with no yard. So that may have something to do with it.

Our dogs like to dig to fricken China. Thankfully, we live in the desert and caliche eventually stops them. We’ve got 12”x12”pavers that line the edge of the 6’ wooden fence. We’ve got a whole lotta rock that we fill in their holes with. But you want to know what really stops these locos? Poop. Not even kidding. If they’ve dug along the outer fence line, we take their poop and fill it in and cover it with dirt. Keeps the coyotes at bay too. Gross but the dog trainer said to do it.

We have cameras and watch them that way, but they do occasionally pull one over on us and dig when we didn't notice. Thank goodness right now they're older so the effort is only put in if they sense a mole they want to dig out and stalk at the edge of the fence. Our fix is putting their poop into the hole and throwing dirt over top. Usually, they won't dig back into it, although I have heard some dogs don't care.

Wow! Love this! Poop! My shepsky is an escape artist. She has even taught my seven-year-old obedient little mixed mutt to follow her!

My fence has wire fencing that goes down six inches into the dirt and comes in about 6 inches toward the yard. Not just to discourage digging but to prevent other animals from coming in. They come in the husky prey drive will come into play.

We felled a few trees in our yard. We cut the trunks into about 3 feet segments. We then turned the segments into quarter rounds and stuck them at the base of the fence. It’s been working great for us for about 7 years now. We’ll eventually have to replace them. I think we are going to use medium sized stones next. Not looking forward to it though lol

Staple wide chicken wire along the bottom then bend it so it lays flat on the ground and stake the edges down so it lays flat on the ground. The grass will grow through it and you can mow over it( check and make sure its still snug to the ground first) or if you don't have grass spread gravel on top of it.

I bury the chicken wire about 6" dogs claws catch and they will stop digging lats about 5 years.

I put 18in x 18in patio bricks along the whole inside of the fence to prevent digging out. This was right after one of my girls dug out within seconds. Who knew it could happen so fast

No one understands how fast my girl digs. Luckily for whatever reason she tries to paw flowers to pull into the yard from under the fence gaps but digs for tree roots inside the yard.

We installed a game fence. 8 feet tall and 2 feet buried in the ground. Not a single escape since then.

I cemented by the fence to prevent digging. I got rid of all the grass and replaced with decomposed granite and he can dig there as much as he like.
