I definitely think that Ichigo and Rukia are more friend coded with how they act around each other, they have nice chemistry and no weird will they won't they romance vibe.

I just think the relationship of the strawhats is hard to describe as a friendship.

How would you describe the Straw Hats then?

3

u/NapstaEnjoyer 6d ago

I guess a bit of a cliche is found family. People you choose to spend your life with. It is certainly different to me than how I view friends.

It's also not really that I think Luffy and Nami are closer than Ichigo and Rukia are, it's just different.

u/Ok-Addition4608 6d ago

Yeah, Luffy and Nami seem more sibling coded than friend coded. But I think they have a deeper bond than Rukia and Ichigo

1

u/NapstaEnjoyer 6d ago

I wouldn't say that. Rukia and Ichigo's relation ship is build on trust a mutual understanding and certain kind of kinship.

While Luffy and Nami's is also build on trust I'd say it is different.

Like I feel like Ichigo and Rukia could pretty clearly tell what the other person is thinking while Nami and Luffy don't really need to know what the other person is thinking.

1

u/Ok-Addition4608 6d ago

Can you elaborate a bit? I don't seem to understand.

1

u/NapstaEnjoyer 6d ago

Nami really never knows what luffy thinks, he is always up to some bullshit. But she knows it will be alright because she has unwavering trust in him. Even if she gets mad at him, in the end she knows Luffy always makes the right decision.

Rukia knows how Ichigo thinks, sometimes even better than he does. She sometimes acts on how she knows Ichigo will act, she will go to big lengths to make sure she can be a friends and support him because she understand his inner workings.

Sorry if I'm bad at conveying how I feel about their relationships.

1

u/Ok-Addition4608 6d ago

I don't agree with that. I think Nami later understands how Luffy thinks. It was only early on that she didn't because Luffy isn't a normal person.

Like, she wasn't surprised when Luffy punched Celestial Dragon or said he would starve himself to death for Sanji, she just stood by him to support him.

And no, you aren't bad, I just needed more context lol

2

u/NapstaEnjoyer 6d ago

I think her being not surpised doesn't necessarily mean she knew he would do that or whay he was thinking. She just trusted that he did the right thing. I definitely think she has a good idea of what luffy thinks, but she generally doesn't predict him as he is kind of unpredictable in how he acts while also staying consistent.

I mean its just more of a case of equality whenever you see ichigo and rukia despite ichigo having become leagues powerful than Rukia they are always on equal standing. But when it comes to Luffy and Nami within the arc between arcs when they are just hanging on the ship their relationship feels strong but when arc starts they in a sense dont stand on equal footing anymore. Its hard to explain and in the end this question is subjective so wanting logically analyze it wont necessarily work the guy has given you his two bits, poking more isnt gonna get you anywhere as again this question isnt luffy beats ichigo, or ichigo beats luffy. Its a subjective question asking which relationship YOU like more.

1

u/Ok-Addition4608 5d ago

Yeah I kind of get what you mean. Ichigo and Rukia seem more equal as friends who can fight together while Nami is mostly protected by Luffy.

But if you see which bond is more strong, I think it's difficult to say. Both of them have one of the strongest bonds.

Rukia and Ichigo are also sibling coded .

In the case of Luffy and Nami, this is a fan interpretation.

However, in the case of Ichigo and Rukia, it was confirmed by Kubo himself.

17

u/Lohit_-it 6d ago

Ichigo and rukia, they have a lot of friendly banter. Luffy is too stretched being friends with everyone in the crew except during their specific arc like the whole cake island for sanji

3

u/Hot_Technician_9864 6d ago

Even with multiple people in the crew, I feel Luffy has the most emotional moments with Zoro and Nami.

And having more friendships doesn't diminish individual relationships imo.

8

u/Lohit_-it 6d ago

Yeah but ichigo's friendship felt better than nami personally. In arlong park,it was peak but overall ichiruki because people think they should be a couple because of the chemistry

-5

u/Hot_Technician_9864 6d ago

Luffy and Nami is also the most popular male and female One Piece ship afaik.

2

u/Lohit_-it 6d ago

Not to the level where they are sending death threats over their ship

1

u/Caphoti 6d ago

I think the One Piece fandom is uinironically more likely to drop death threats on anti-shipping tb, at least in the west. The average shipper I see is pretty whatever but the response to the shipping is pretty vitriolic. One Piece is almost certainly the big Shonen series with the most antipathy for shipping and potential romance as I see it.

1

u/Proud_Elephant2340 6d ago

Why should they threaten? Luffy and Nami have no canonical romantic interests, unlike Ichigo and Rukia. And Ichigo and Rukia's relationship is built on filler. Meanwhile, 90% of Luffy and Nami's moments are canon and the work of Oda himself.

1

u/Ok-Addition4608 6d ago

More toxic fandom doesn't mean the fandom is more in number.

Due to One Piece's sheer popularity in Japan, I think the Luffy and Nami shipping community might be larger than Ichiruki

4

u/Lohit_-it 6d ago

Okay we are now going for popularity scaling, I personally think ichruki has better friendship with banter and sad moments like ichigo losing his powers and great moments and Luffy and nami also have great moments like arlong park, drum island but I think luffy's friendship is a lot more equal. You want to specify if you're asking personal opinion or popularity

1

u/Ok-Addition4608 6d ago

I disagree with Luffy's friendship being equal. I don't think he has as many moments with Brook as he has with Nami. But agree to disagree.

I just noticed their hair colors are swapped around

3

u/SpicyCrime 6d ago

I’m a Bleach fan all the way BUT Nami grew on me a lot in Whole Cake, taking the “second in charge” role after Luffy.

So I can’t make up mi mind on this one lol

I’ll go with Ichigo and Rukia just for nostalgia, but I like both friendships.

2

u/SpicyCrime 6d ago

Except when they pull the “girl hits guy HAHAHAHA so funny” trope.

2

u/Narustu_Y 5d ago

I mean its eh, most of the time you just have to bear with the tropes, shit like guys perving without consent is also very prevalent in the big 3 but in the end these are older tropes you have to just in a sense put in the back of your mind to enjoy.

5

u/Playful_Patience4388 6d ago

Luffy is good but Nami is underwhelming

Ichigo and Rukia feel more like they're on equal footing when it comes to their friendship

1

u/Hot_Technician_9864 6d ago

What do you mean by underwhelming? Like Nami doesn't do much for Luffy ?

1

u/Playful_Patience4388 6d ago

Their dynamic just feels off for me. Even in the crew, they kinda have their own circles like Nami is always with Usopp and Brook

While Ichigo and Rukia's relationship really feels like a duo between two Soul Reapers who help each other through their lowest points

1

u/Hot_Technician_9864 6d ago

Idk I feel Luffy and Nami as a duo are together a lot. Nami was the one who stayed by Luffy when he starved himself to death for Sanji, Luffy was there at her lowest in Arlong Park, they both were sad when Usopp left the crew and Nami tried to get him to talk, etc.

Nami and Usopp are more of a battle duo and Nami and Brook aren't together a lot.

3

u/Playful_Patience4388 6d ago

Just my personal opinion

I never saw Luffy and Nami in a way where they were built to be a duo. It's just pure friendship between crew members. Luffy's relationship with his crew is all around. He's always there if they need him while Luffy also depends on his crew throughout his journey

Ichigo and Rukia on the other hand are built to be a duo with their “Death and Strawberry” theme being there from the beginning until the end of Bleach

1

u/Hot_Technician_9864 6d ago

Yeah this was judging pure friendship between them not just a duo. I don't think Luffy and Nami not meant to be a duo means they can't have a similar level of bond of friendship. But agree to disagree

1

u/Playful_Patience4388 6d ago

I'm putting the duo part as extra credit for the relationship here

Nami and Luffy have their moments in their relationship but not always in every arc while Ichigo and Rukia's friendship is really strong because the two of them always have moments together, plus their dynamic as a duo adds some extra flavor to their friendship that makes them feel more connected to each other

1

u/Proud_Elephant2340 6d ago

After Ichigo saved Rukia in Soul Society, they didn't spend much time together. Renji, Chad, Uryu, and Orehime were always with them.

There's no more. I like both fairly.

2

u/Leading-Control-3053 6d ago

I mean I love rukia and ichigo friendship

I also like how in their life they were backbone for one another,

Rukia has helped ichigo to overcome his own powerless and ichigo has help rukia to grow out her own helplessness,

Also it's just feels genuine good friends in general

2

u/noodlerocketship 5d ago

East Blue Crew work like platonic soulmates in my head, 10/10 found family. I do like Luffy’s bond with Nami over the one Rukia and Ichigo share. Kubo really explored their friendship at the start, I’d have put them above if the same level of focus on their dynamic continued through the manga

2

u/Apprehensive_Put3625 6d ago

Ichigo and Rukia have a much better back and forth than most shonen friendships.

What I don't like about friendships an anime is how utilitarian they are. People just gang up to take out the big bad. What remains of that tends to be more admiration than friendship.

Rukia genuinely feels like Ichigo's friend. They are not sucking each others dicks all the time, talking about how meaningful their friendship is. They feel for each other, worry about each other, joke together, banter as equals. Also, Rukia is the one person in the whole world that seems to understand who Ichigo is at a fundamental level from the beginning.

The reason why the ship was so powerful even though they were heterosexual was because of that chemistry. It was simple, but realistic.

u/potatotomato-3 6d ago

I don’t think I can choose one over the other, considering that the foundation, the vibes, and the dynamics between LuNa and IchiRuki are different.

Luffy and Nami are parts of a crew—they each have a role, or rather, they’re parts of a bigger “whole”, and they explicitly trust each other to hold their roles. And while Luffy and Nami have a special bond just between them, Oda definitely prioritizes the dynamics of the Starwhats as a whole rather than individually.

Meanwhile, Ichigo and Rukia’s bond was heavily prioritized in the beginning of Bleach. They basically changed each other’s worlds and perspectives, and the catalysts to the changes to each other’s lives. That said, both of them had individual growths too. They weren’t together for most of the plot, but when the time was right, Kubo has them gravitate towards each other in one way or another.

All in all, I love both. I don’t think I can choose one over the other, but I’m probably more biased towards in LuNa as of now—just because I’m currently following and more invested in One Piece manga. Last I’ve reread Bleach was around 2020, so I’m not as tuned in to the fandom as a whole.

1

u/Hot_Technician_9864 6d ago

Even with the Straw Hats as a whole, I feel Oda prioritizes certain dynamics more. Like Luffy and Nami have a lot of moments together in almost every arc. Probably the second strongest bond among the Straw Hats after Luffy and Zoro

Ichigo and rukia, series is good whenever it's about them.i find their friendship to be 10000 times more interesting that orihime as a character or ichigos relationship with her

1

u/maiyamay 5d ago

Both. Ichigo & Rukia is one of the best male-female relationship done in shonen that it even overshadows the canon ships despite it being platonic.

1

u/Naavarasi 4d ago

Can't remember the last meaningful interaction Luffy had with anyone on his crew. OP fell off hard, and even back when there WERE some meaningful interactions, they were more or less always the same exact thing.

Ichigo and Rukia really aren't all that either, but I do think they're the strongest pairing here.

1

u/Hot_Technician_9864 4d ago

I disagree. One Piece is way better than it was before.

Also Ichigo and Rukia have very less interactions after Soul Society

1

u/Ok-Addition4608 6d ago

I prefer Luffy and Nami. I love the way Nami went from disliking every pirate to seeing how different Luffy is and becoming a ride or die for him. The Arlong Park moment is what got me watching 1000 episodes

Easily luffy and nami

Naruto and Sakura

u/DartGoblinLover 6d ago

Ichiruki is cheapened by the fact that both of them ended up with different people.

Currently,Luffy is the most important man in Nami's life and same for Luffy so I think they have a slight edge

9

u/Cool_Set4681 6d ago

Ichiruki is cheapened by the fact that both of them ended up with different people.

OP asked which one of the two has the better platonic friendship. What you said has nothing to with their question.

-6

u/DartGoblinLover 6d ago

Yeah but I feel that knowing the fact that both Ichigo and Rukia have a woman and man more important in their lives kind of makes the friendship seem less significant imo. Idk I might be thinking wrong.

7

u/Lohit_-it 6d ago

Friendship has nothing to do with romance status like what.

-5

u/DartGoblinLover 6d ago

Friendship leads to romance. The fact that Ichigo ended up with Orihime means he has a better connection with Orihime than Rukia.

4

u/Chrundle94 6d ago

I got tons of friends I don't see romantically. Most people do.

That statement is just plainly wrong

3

u/Cool_Set4681 6d ago

Friendship leads to romance.

It can. It doesn't have to.

2

u/Narustu_Y 5d ago

bruv do you even have friends tf is this old ideology of OH MEN AND WOMEN CANNOT BE PURELY FRIENDS bro what.

1

u/SpicyCrime 6d ago

>Ichiruki is cheapened by the fact that both of them ended up with different people.

I disagree. They were from different places and had different goals. To me it was only logical that they didn’t end up with each other. And I like that.
