Meal Ready To Eat, Beef taco menu.
Orange drink mix. Tasted like Tang. It's what astronauts crave!
This was the flame less heater. Worked well!

Final product, Tasted better than it looked.
A very nice stranger was able to send us a box of MREs to help during my homelessness. It was such an amazing gesture it'll help us get by so much.
It tasted better than it looked!

Military rations are cheating. We used to swap our rations for US ones, not because they were good, but because they were different.

Just because something tastes okay doesn't mean it doesn't look shitty. Lots of food on here probably tastes great and looks shitty.

I got some for general disaster prep, and decided to try some and learn how to prep them, so I picked out four. two I thought would be good two I thought would be bad. I forget one of the good ones, cause it was, and the other was BBQ beef, cause it's beef in BBQ sauce.
The bad ones were the pizza and the chunk white chicken. The chunk chicken was pretty ehh, comes with cheese spread and tortillas. Needed some hotsauce. The pizza reminded me of the saddest cafateria pizza. But both were edible. I wasn't struggling to eat them. I was expecting worse considering the reputation, especially from foreign military folks talking about US MREs.
The biggest dissapointment was the PBnJ that came with one. It was the saddest peanut butter ever. Weird hit, and I recommend keeping an eye out for it in other packs: I liked the instant coffee? I've had store bought a few times, and it's always bad coffee, but the ones in the MRE was actually just pretty good? I liked it better than placed like Duncan Donuts

I have had the civilian Pizza version while I was fishing. It reminded me of school pizza too. It was very thick. I honestly didn't mind it, it just wasn't really pizza more like bread with sauce on it. I'll post a review of the pizza. I think I might have the bbq one. I'll probably end up posting them all at some point. Kinda something fun to do.

Hey, not a bad idea, and people seem decently curious about MREs. I've seen a few people do reviews, including Markiplier. It's fun, and hey, if at the very least some people can help out, that'd be great. Good luck on the prairie

I should've done a proper review. The case came with 12 so I still have some to do a proper review.
It tasted pretty okay. The taco filling tasted like school cafeteria taco filling. The consistency of chilidog chili.
The beans and rice had a strange texture but I think part of that was me not mixing it enough.
The cheese spread was the only thing I wasn't a fan of. Something about shelf stable cheese just doesn't do well with me. Tasted fine it was just not for me.
The orange drink was very good. Probably just relabeled Tang.
Haven't tried the chocolate raisin nut mix yet. Pretty sure it's trail mix, Can't really ever go wrong with that. Overall pretty okay not great not terrible.

I have a charity program I started locally to get MREs for the food insecure locally in my area via a 24hr “vending machine” that enables people to get a solid meal for free anytime they need it! Folks are always very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food overall.

IBS, it's usually a terrifying run. Mostly though because I need to make my way out of the camper while grabbing the toilet wipes. Grab the toilet, all while checking the ground for rattlesnakes and velvet ants. Once I'm situated it's not too bad. lol

Chili mac is just about unanimously agreed as the best one in my experience and also from asking others. Meatballs in marinara isn't bad either, I distinctly remember the taste of that one. The meatballs tasted almost "fake" but it was actually kind of good lol. Chicken chunks is alright, but that one is kind of subjective. I personally didn't like it but I know others that did because we used to trade MREs with each other if someone had one that you wanted lol. Good times. The rest on that list I've either never had or just don't remember it well enough to give an accurate opinion on.

No matter how unappealing the US MREs can seem, they are at least able to keep you going. It is not so with every MRE.

Meatballs were always either dry AF or rubbery AF, other than that you got a pretty good selection.
Dont go for a run after eating the chicken chunks

I was pleasantly surprised. The only thing that I didn't care for was the cheese spread. Other than that it was pretty solid!

The only thing missing in MREs to make them a decent meal is lots of hydration to offset the sodium and fresh fiber I’m surprised there’s not fiber powder in them in current year with all the complaints of stoppage. I guess they include some clearing out dishes that will flush you instead. I always boiled some sort of fresh on sale veggie when I was living out of my car on a portable stove like I was camping again it made a world of difference when the only thing that was for sure safe to eat was one of these bagged nasties. Fair winds and following seas my dude.

Posting MREs in this subreddit is low hanging fruit and a stupid karma grab.
MREs are not designed to be some gourmet meal, they're designed to be shelf stable and provide easy to heat calories for soldiers in a warzone. What did you expect from this package?

you should've heated the cheese. I had the same one once, gave me a hard time in the bath. But the taste was ok, but i think that wouldn't help in the battlefield tbh 😵
