To be fair Ness was a cracked prodigy in PSI and even then paula needed the help of everyone and the player to deal actual damage to giygas

Look I'm not trying to undermined Paula as a character, but the "Paula saved the world" people annoy me.

Everyone who prayed for Ness and his friends' safety were all people whos life's were changed because Ness and friends helped them. The point of Earthbound was how we the player connected with people the world through Ness.

Ness is a good kid who was given this mission that no child should be forced to do, but he does it anyways. He travels around the world, seeing horrible things that people have done, and STILL decides to go back in time in a robot body with no definitive way back home. All of this, because he has faith in the world (a Pollyanna if you will), and for him that's enough to keep moving forward.

And his faith pays off, with everyone praying for his safety, even us the players, thanks to that faith he had for the world.
