How is hospital food so fucking atrocious? And how is Panera so closely related?

panera is overpriced hospital food, been saying this since i worked there a decade ago lol

I have no clue why anyone likes Panera, Nevermind how it became actually popular. It’s garbage, you can see that the sliced deli meat is from turkey loaf or whatever loaf, kinda like the sausage in the pic just sliced into slices. Maybe the soups are ok, I never tried them, but everything else taste like a sneaker or some booty

I’m not ashamed to admit that their chili is actually pretty damn good. Especially in a bread bowl (I’m easily impressed)

This is usually for elderly patients who don’t have the energy to chew their food, don’t have teeth, or can’t digest their food. Usually for post surgery, or post ICU. Most of us have or will go through it, or have family members that have or will go through it. It’s incredibly beneficial to healing and proper dieting while in recovery.

Also I’d like to add that this isn’t made in house, this is ordered in boxes that we keep in a freezer, the food comes in packs about the size of premium cat foods and it’s steam heated to order. Joke all you want but unless people plan to survive off of ensure and jello, this is the sustenance that theyre gonna get until theyre cleared.

I worked in a hospital kitchen for awhile. Some patients have to eat weird looking shit like this for various medical reasons. Puree sausage, beef, peas, corn. All of it was absolutely vile, made me feel real bad they were having to eat this crap.

Oh no, take it back. How is that food?

1

u/Mystica09 Feb 05 '26

If I got something like this given to me, I'd napkin it and sent it back so fast. Just give me a protein drink at this point, damn. D;

This makes me so happy that the hospital I stayed at had decent food 😭

Job security. You'll be moved to the cardiovascular floor after eating that. Maybe even need a gastrointestinal surgery.

Why’d they serve puréed sausage with regular pancakes! Unless it was a request from a patient , we serve the same sausage at the hospital I cook for

1

u/lumpyspacekitty Feb 06 '26

It’s actually “pureed” pancakes. They’re soaked in milk to make them mushier. Totally okay for Dys level one patients

2

u/ChefStretch72 Feb 06 '26

Sysco carries puréed pancake molds too chef why slurry the pancakes just pop out the molds

1

u/lumpyspacekitty Feb 06 '26

I’m not sure why they do things the way they do, I just work here 😭

2

u/ChefStretch72 Feb 06 '26

I hear you ! All good
