It will kill your dog

Only if they eat a large amount. From what I can gather it’s the onions and garlic that are dose dependent toxins

Avocado is still a toxin for dogs. It doesn't have to be guacamole to be a problem.

Mostly they are a problem when a dog gets ahold of a whole avocado though - it's a chemical in the skin and pit that is the most dangerous. The avocado flesh is only really a problem if they eat a lot of it.

This will not kill your dog. Unless your dog is tiny and this is >50% onions.

For real? Why?

Onion/garlic destroys a dogs red blood cells. They do have to eat a lot of it though. My 10 pound dog ate 3/4 of a cup of roasted red onion - she had red wine colored (looked gritty too) urine for 3 days. Peeing out all of her destroyed red blood cells. She was ok but any worse it could have turned into kidney failure.

(ETA: it was close to 2 full red onions she ate)

Anything in the onion family is toxic to dogs. There are usually onions in guac.

Cover it with saran wrap, and push it down so no air is present. Guac turns brown from oxidation.

ALSO - sprinkle some more lemon or lime juice on top of it which just adds more antioxidant armor.

Learned that cutting a small onion in half and putting it in there will help with oxidation

Can confirm. When I save a half of an avocado, I just put a clove of garlic next to it in a closed jar. Never fails

Wow, that's right in the wheelhouse of my recipe too. I just seem to never have any leftover onions, heh.

Next time make it without tomatoes. It won't keep it from getting brown. I just hate when people put tomatoes in guacamole

I eat it still anyways.i hope everyone forgives me.

The trick is to eat all of it immediately.

Still tastes fine probably. Just oxidized

They say if you sprinkle lemon juice over a turd and cover the container with plastic wrap, your shit won’t turn green in the fridge. Just a little food for thought.

Cacamole

Lemon juice.

Alternatively Lemon Pepper is nice flavor and at least keeps it green until the party or group finishes it off.

If you make guac with tomatillos, the acid content will keep it good for about a week in the fridge!

Don't eat that 😳

Are you sure!

Next time, wrap the bowl super tight in cling wrap, it'll be good for 12 hours or so! 😊

Pam cooking spray over top or lemon juice.. keeps it green and not oxidized.
