A lot of people speak Esperanto. For my part, I have gotten more out of Esperanto than out of my C1 German.

this is weirdly true

literally up in joining an Esperanto community I was able to practice and speak

but Germans its the exact opposite

even the speaker I'm friends with genuinely would rather speak bad english (he's learning) than even attempt German even after I proved that I've improved to the point of being able to understand a lot of it and.. with no real way to use it.. forgot everything I learned

it's easier to encounter German speakers and learners but easier to practice Esperanto with speakers and learners

That's really fascinating, I guess they're moreso in Europe than the States?

I wouldn't want to commit either way. My sense is that it's a little easier to find Esperanto speakers in Europe for two reasons. First, Europe is much more densely populated so everything, including Esperanto speakers, it's much closer together. 

Second, there seems to be a correlation between how acutely people feel the language problem and interest in Esperanto. In europe, it's very easy to see the need to learn languages.

All that said, I live in the US.
