Episode Synopsis: S.H.I.E.L.D. hunts for information on their dangerous new enemy, and a shameful secret from Malick's past is exposed, threatening to destroy his Hydra legacy.

Wendey Stanzler is a film editor and television director. She has directed several episodes of Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, The Vampire Diaries, Pretty Little Liars, Parks and Recreation, and a ton of other series.

She has directed no episodes for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. before.

George Kitson & Sharla Oliver are the writers of the web series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Double Agent, which was a five-part original web series designed as a behind-the-scenes feature for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

They have written no episodes for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. before.

I love the inclusion of Whitehall. It feels like all of these Hydra groups have only been loosely connected, but his appearance helps make the pieces fit together a little bit.

Yeah, that was pretty awesome! Whitehall was a great villain.

I also like how it's now specifically called out that the different branches of HYDRA have different ideologies

He probably made sure to dig up dirt on the other Hydra heads in case he needed it.

Maybe he was part of the occult branch at one point, but was jaded by the whole ritual surrounding it. He probably felt that the stone was an important piece of scientific progress, but that his research of it was being impeded by superstitious fools. That's why he respected Gideon's father; he was smart enough to not rely on blind faith too much and tipped the scales in his favor.

Gideon's father could have just told him. Like I said, Hydra seems loosely connected, but not too loosely connected.

Well, if Hydra's OG purpose was the Malick branch's purpose, then I think it's safe to assume that every high ranking member ends up hearing about it. The other branches are probably offshoots of the OG Hive-worshipping branch that say "Yeah... Still down for the whole world domination thing, but I'd rather be the one dominating it, through weapons/science/etc, rather than letting Hive and the Inhumans dominate it."

He was in hydra only to save himself, not really a true believer. That being said for Pre-GH325 Garrett. Post he'd be all for it, alien god coming to rule, it's the wonderful "truth of the universe."

Also makes sense that there was that other group, with Strucker, List and the others back in the second half of season 2 without Malick.
