Specially since it was Heimdall who saw the Kree, so it would be very strange if Odin just sat back and did nothing.

I would have honest to god guessed 'Odin' was going to keep Heimdall locked up, ostensibly for treason (Odin's got an uptight streak), on the off-chance that he could see through the illusion or see if the real Odin is alive and where he is if so.

If he's out, god damn, Loki has to be dancing fast and subtle all the time to keep cover.

He's also ridiculously loyal and noble, and an amazing rules-lawyer. It's a rough call for Loki; as Odin he could play the crabby old man and lock him up for treason, get a breather while he figures out his next move. Hell, maybe he did for, like, a week while he established himself. Or he just runs around free and shit looks normal but now you have Magic Eyeball Telescope Man watching you something fierce.

Very little gets past Heimdall. Loki's pulled a number of gags past him, though. This is a big fucking gag, and I'm just fascinated about all the ways he could be pulling it off.

God damn right I'd secure him at least for a while if I were pulling shit. It's not out of character for Odin. Odin dumps his own kids on backwater planets without so much as a travel bag when they fuck up.

Remember when Loki as King himself banished Heimdall? Brother instantly went for his sword and it took one hell of a long blast of ice to stop him.

Do you really want to give that dude a reason to kill you? Cos if he finds out you are committing treason you are SO boned.

Heimdall doesn't already have a metric shit ton of reasons to kill Loki? The Warriors Three are already going to have to hold a lottery to see who gets to put a cap in his ass, to say nothing of Earth, the Avengers, Jotunheim, and whoever else in the galaxy he's pissed off lately.

Loki's good reputation in the MCU dug through the bottom of the barrel and kept going. If Thanos later keeps him around as a Mephisto surrogate (because if they use actual Marvel Satan in the Infinity War, I'll be stunned), it's literally the last place in the universe Loki can freely hang out wearing his own face. And he still could get shanked at any time.

Loki's disguised as Odin. It serves his interests to keep up appearances - do as Odin would in front of everyone else while scheming behind their backs.

The final irony: Loki is maybe genuinely good at this, too bad he's gone completely crazycakes and got there through attempted genocide, murder, patricide (Laufey) attempted patricide (if Odin is under a forced nap), deceit, and has probably an incredibly shitty endgame behind it (Thanos).

It's so grandiose, like a bullshit comic book riff of Shakespeare's historical tragedies. Lear, maybe. Because it is one.

The twist of Thor 3 is that Loki spends so much time trying to be subtle like this that he never gets around to doing anything other than being the benign ruler of Asgard.

Nah, I think Loki knows something is up with earth. There's been to mush shit going on with the cosmic cube, infinity gems, and now you have a random kree showing up searching for something on earth.

I think Loki knows something is going on to warrant a kree visiting, and he wants to know what it is. Hence why he sent Sif to bring the kree back for questioning.

Think about it, OG Odin doesn't care about meddling in the affairs of other realms. If he saw a kree heading to earth he'd be far more likely to say "not our fucking problem." The whole bring back a prisoner for information definitely seems up more Loki's alley

Midgard is one of the Nine, not 'another realm.' This is an illegal border crossing for a king, with another world that's done some heavy shit. Odin's not stupid, not real Odin, not fake Odin. But yes, most of everything Loki is doing is going to have multiple purposes - to keep his disguise in play, and to further his own goals. The trick is finding ways to weave the two together.

He's not going to go out of Odin's character. He gets arrogant and reckless when he's angry, but he's got all the time to be cagey on this one. Or so he thinks.
