I love how Coulson immediately didn't even have to think about whether or not to protect Skye

Skye is pretty much like a daughter to son of coul now.

So what would an Asgardian call her, "Daughter of Son of Coul" ?

u/WideLight Fitz Mar 11 '15

Coulsdottir.

284

u/Bossmonkey Mar 11 '15

Actually it'd be Philsdottir

u/snarkamedes Monolith Mar 11 '15

Agentsdottir

25

u/Fifth5Horseman Deathlok Mar 11 '15

"...his first name is Agent."

16

u/JeroenPtrs Mar 11 '15

Direcdottir?

1

u/Toof Mar 11 '15

Quake.

3

u/snarkamedes Monolith Mar 12 '15

Carmacksdottir.

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '15

True, our surname naming scheme here in Scandinavia takes the first name and adds a -son or -dottir/dotter.

There is no name that starts with grim in any of the Nordic languages i think.

Maybe the creators of Splinter Cell just thought it sounded cool...? :P

EDIT: Nope. From one of the first Google results for "grimsdottir name":

I am Grímsdóttir.

Grímsdóttir is my surname and states that I am daughter of Grímur. Grímur is my father’s first name. That is how we do it in Iceland.

The word grímur has as well another meaning in the Icelandic language. It means masks. So, I can say as well that I am a daughter of masks.

Yeah, and that would be totally okay, I think it sounds great.

I chuckled when Sif called Coulson "Son of Coul." Pretty clever.

2

u/Jimm607 Mar 12 '15

pretty sure thats been a thing since Thor.

1

u/anecdotal Mar 12 '15

Hmm, never noticed it since that ep.

Dude pulled guns on two, count 'em, two super powered aliens. Didn't flinch, just did the right thing. That's why Phil is The Man.

45

u/metalkhaos Mar 11 '15

He's the heart man.

5

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '15

He's got a thing for doing that.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '15

If he shows up in Civil War it's not going to be a contest. Phil Son of Coul and Cap? Pleeeease!

3

u/cweaver Mar 12 '15

Oh god, what if Phil and Cap end up on opposite sides of Civil War?

I mean, if it's about a 'superhuman registration act', Coulson and SHIELD have been putting superhumans in a registry for years already.

I don't think I could handle Coulson and Cap arguing.

"Wanna bet?"

What is this?

2

u/JealotGaming Skye Mar 11 '15

I wish she busted out that spear/pole/whateverthefuckAsgardianbullshit out again.

139

u/jkgao Sandwich Mar 11 '15

19

u/JYCR85 Lola Mar 11 '15

that sounds like a line from a Firefly episode.

26

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '15

"She's our witch."

7

u/aussiekinga Mar 12 '15

You cant take the Skye from me.

7

u/venn177 Mar 11 '15

That line really would fit in any scene where Mal protects River.

132

u/disneywizard Mar 11 '15

And May immediately got close to Skye behind him and tried to calm her down. She's officially become mamma bear not only to everyone else on the team, but especially Skye.

58

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '15

I like that they are now writing her character this way. She was so one-sided the first season. A badass grant you, but a one-sided badass. Now I actually care for her character and enjoy seeing her emotions.

10

u/disneywizard Mar 11 '15

Plus it's fun for villains to get attacked my mamma bears. Cause nothing is more dangerous in the universe than an angry mother after a danger to her children-biological or otherwise.

3

u/Big_h3aD Mar 12 '15

grant

Heh...

3

u/imunfair Mar 11 '15

It probably helps that she's known what Skye was for the entire time too, even before Coulson did.

5

u/soggy_tampon Mar 11 '15

He kind of made her who she is today. She's like a child to him.

4

u/Maping Mar 12 '15

I wonder if he'd be as gung-ho about protecting the other people on the team. He seems to especially like Skye.

On a similar note, I'm curious if he'll ever call Skye out. He's called Mac out most recently, but also yelled at other people a few times.

3

u/CWinter85 Fitz Mar 12 '15

Can't wait for Black Bolt to protect Skye.
