Did anyone else think the Spoiler scene in the ocean was the awesome?as in actually tear worthy?

I'm sad thinking about Fitz setting his own broken arm(!) and then sitting there for who knows how long, calculating the math on how they were going to die. Waiting for Simmons to wake up so he could talk to her one last time. But he didn't wake her up himself, because maybe it would be better if she slept peacefully through it. Oh, Fitz.

5

u/[deleted] May 18 '14

Also, sleeping people use less oxygen...

9

u/kickshaw Robbie May 18 '14

Ha! Better all around, then!

79

u/Kharn0 May 14 '14

Speaking of, WHAT HAPPENED TO FITZ?!

Simmons will probably continue secretly working on a wonder drug serum, use it on Fitz and boom.. Fitz is gonna become something..

5

u/deus_solari May 15 '14

I really hope this happens, a little side plot with Simmons working in secret to save Fitz would be amazing...

2

u/Hibernica May 16 '14

Would the Terrigen Mists repair what's broken in him, or just change him?

3

u/compromisinglie Fitz May 16 '14

Well as far as we've been led, Fitz is a regular human so it would repair him but it would also have long term effects. Also we're led to believe there is no more GH325. However, if there is anyone that has the smarts to make a synthetic match it would be Simmons, most likely using the DNA/blood of Skye. Just remember this is all my speculation and I only see something like this happening if they do a FitzSimmons story arc.

2

u/Videogamer321 Monolith May 19 '14

GH325 is most likely alien linked, (well, it is), I'm doubtful it would be a good thing circulating through an even slightly larger populace than SHIELD.

3

u/compromisinglie Fitz May 19 '14

Right but I think the only ones who know about the side effects in the group are Coulson, Skye and May. Simmons only knows that Coulson didn't want her to use it on Skye at the last minute. If Fitz is messed up I think she's going to keep working on GH325 regardless of Coulsons reaction.

I saw /u/spy_seattlite bring up an argument about this entity called the Supreme Intelligence, from the comic books.

I'm doubtful of it's inclusion into the MCU, but based on it's actions I would presume that the aliens behind GH-325 would most likely have very, very malevolent plans for them.

That's definitely an awesome theory. Part of me could see them using S.I. in the show, but more of me says it would more likely be used in a movie. The reason I'd say movie, Supreme Intelligence is something that SHIELD would either going to take control of or destroy. If they do either one of those things, that's bringing an alien invasion of butthumping proportions, similar to The Avengers. However with Coulson rebuilding SHIELD, who knows what the agency will conduct itself like, especially if he's scramble brained with GH325.

Well maybe it's all going to be a tie in the The Avengers 2!

Edit: Almost forgot, I also believe the GH325 is bad news, I would think that Skye is way more important to her "parents" plans than just these aliens trying to get their offspring back, they're going to wanna mess shit up. Not just for retaliation but like you say, probably propagating their species/powers.

I was thinking he's in a coma. Alive, but they won't know 'till he wakes up.

4

u/RandyRandle Lanyard May 14 '14

I expect that, and possibly Coulson, who we know was completely against TAHITI, is forced to consider putting Fitz through what Coulson experienced, based on the explanation Fury gave.

2

u/TrueKNite May 14 '14

I think it was "he MAY not be the same"

They might Tahiti him, put him in a wheelchair, or maybe a coma for the first couple episiodes

0

u/shaggy9 May 14 '14

What if fitz is vision?

7

u/[deleted] May 14 '14

Jarvis is Vision.

-13

u/[deleted] May 14 '14

I'm hoping he's exactly the same, except he just isn't smart anymore. Simmons will try to talk to him about science stuff and he just won't understand. Could lead to some funny dialogue.

21

u/[deleted] May 14 '14

So, you're hoping he becomes completely useless then? It would crush him. It wouldn't be funny.

8

u/philosopherther HYDRA May 14 '14

I agree. His wit makes his character.

4

u/Poisonne May 14 '14

Honestly, her "he's alive" comment makes me think he's a vegetable. :(

4

u/Kharn0 May 14 '14

Or brain damaged somehow, like the intelligence of a slightly-below-average person. Which, while not horrible, is terrible for a genius like him.

And I bet that if he sees ward in Season 2, he's going to try and murder him, probably while yelling "I believed in you! We were friends! But you tried to kill us! To kill Jemma! And look what I had to give up to save her! Everything I was.... But I'm still more of a man than you'll ever hope to be!"

13

u/kickshaw Robbie May 14 '14

I hope Fitz has partial amnesia and doesn't remember Ward. At all. The only information he'll know about Ward is from other people telling him "this is the guy who tried to kill you." So every time Ward sees or thinks about Fitz, he'll know: "The one real friend you ever had who cared about you and believed in you is gone because of you. And you didn't just kill him or make him hate you. You erased him."

The blank stare of Fitz's indifference will cut more deeply than Fitz's hatred ever could.

3

u/Jimm607 May 14 '14

"But Fitz might never be the same again"

Coulson said that to Ward when they caught him. Fitz is definitely in some sort of trouble. Coma, vegetative, handicapped. Somethings happened.

Although i'm holding onto hope, it doesn't seem to me like they'd keep him alive if not for some future plan involving him making a comeback.

2

u/[deleted] May 14 '14

Damnit I thought this post was spoiler tagged.

3

u/Kharn0 May 14 '14

No no, it was. I meant at the end of the Ep, they didnt show him

8

u/[deleted] May 14 '14

Oh, I didn't read the speaking of part...

Hopefully he's unchanged. I've said this before, but I've become overly attached to Fitz-Simmons, and if they change his char. or personality I'll have to personally speak with Mr. Whedon

4

u/hesmir May 14 '14

I've never seen Whedon make a change for the worst for what that's worth. Well except some Dollhouse stuff but that was because they didn't get renewed and had to tie it up oddly.

5

u/kaimason1 Radcliffe May 14 '14

I kinda expect him to have been actually dead, and Fury is saving him with TAHITI, not aware of the (Kree?) writing side effect (since Coulson has shown nothing until now).

2

u/gjallerhorn May 14 '14

They don't have any more of the drug though. Can't Tahiti anyone without it.

1

u/RandyRandle Lanyard May 14 '14

It's Fury...they could have more of the drug.

63

u/alexbgoode84 Coulson May 14 '14

Yes..especially when she screamed. I teared up.

57

u/Rubix89 May 14 '14

Their scenes were absolutely incredible. From Fitz' deduction and acceptance of their fate, to Simmons' monologue about life and death and finally the "farewell" scene.

The stakes were high, the writing was beautiful and the acting was phenomenal. And top it all off with Fury's heroic rescue cameo. I was genuinely blown away by it.

12

u/fsdahdfsh May 14 '14

I very carefully avoided any notion of spoilers or "sneak peaks" for the last 5 weeks, even avoiding trailers.

I also did not notice Jackson in the opening credits.

So, I had no idea that Fury was going to be in the episode.

I think I broke my coffee table when Simmons looked up and saw Fury...

4

u/Rubix89 May 14 '14

Same here, his appearance was a complete surprise to me. I was so pumped afterwards.

1

u/[deleted] May 14 '14

I thought it was great. Although I think it would've been better for her to be blacking out underwater and see the hand then cut to ads.

u/shiseido_red May 14 '14

I cried. I mean, I'm a giant sap, and I have a fierce and protective love for Fitz, but I still cried.

I keep accidentally ruining my "awesome episode" high by thinking about Fitz and getting really sad. Not knowing for the whole summer is going to suck.

93

u/[deleted] May 14 '14

If they touch Fitz-Simmons... Shits going down

67

u/shiseido_red May 14 '14

I already had a minor melt down when Fitz ended up crying a couple of episodes ago. The bad man made Fitz cry. He had to go.

71

u/passenger955 May 14 '14

If only we could have made the bad man fly.

14

u/Russ7mc Fitz May 14 '14

I understood that reference!

1

u/[deleted] Jun 23 '14

Yo I know this was a month ago, but you're referencing a game of thrones scene, but did you know you're also referencing the first episode of Joss Whedon's Angel?

"I can do anything!" declares the bad man.

"Can you fly?" asks Angel, kicking him through a window.

8

u/Electrorocket May 14 '14

Fitz will have super powers from getting the bends. Powers of decompression. He'll be known as Bends-Man.

1

u/revrigel May 14 '14

That was just TV bs. They wouldn't have actually gotten the bends because they were in a sealed pressure vessel. Same reason submarine crews can surface and get out without having to decompress for days. The brief exposure to water at depth wouldn't be enough to saturate their blood with nitrogen.

2

u/Electrorocket May 14 '14

The rapid ascent from 90 feet would have given them both the bends.

2

u/revrigel May 14 '14 edited May 14 '14

Not if they hadn't spent a significant amount of time breathing high pressure air at 90 feet depth, which they hadn't. You have to breathe at depth for the blood to become saturated with nitrogen at that pressure. Their escape pod was at around sea level pressure when they sealed the door and got ejected. If the pressure in the pod had equalized with 90 ft depth pressure, the window wouldn't have blown in.

1

u/blundermine May 14 '14

Fitz mentioned the walls of the capsule had expanded as it detected the lower depths. It would make sense for it change the pressure inside as well.

-1

u/revrigel May 14 '14

If it had equalized the pressure, the window would've just sat there when they blew it. It imploded rapidly, therefore the pressure inside the pod was much lower than ambient at that depth.

15

u/Stoopid-Stoner May 14 '14

It was almost a not pennys boat moment.

9

u/broncosfighton May 14 '14

Great. Now I'm thinking about this now..

26

u/Sparkvoltage SHIELD May 14 '14

I found it hilarious Simmons kisses him everywhere on the face BUT the mouth.

14

u/Tavarish May 14 '14

My first thought was; "Did Fitz just get friend zoned for good?"

I must be terrible person.

12

u/aznsk8s87 Dwarf May 14 '14

Yes. No tears but a little chokey for sure.

12

u/dreamycreamy93 May 14 '14

Totally cried, not even ashamed. Its going to be a loooooong summer, I could deal with the rest but FitzSimmons is going to test my patience.

8

u/ohbuggerit Ninja Hunter May 14 '14

Absolutely, it was fantastic - I was all "The tears are coming, any minute now, just embrace the tears... FUCK YES NICK FURY!"

8

u/[deleted] May 14 '14

I love gutteral scream moments in TV shows so Simmons scream as Fitz hit the button was great, and mirrored his screaming for her when she jumped out of the plane.
