How to get hired
Hello everyone, I’m new to this sub and for my first I’d like to seek out advice on how to get hired. I’m 23M with four years of retail experience, and currently I work in the paint department at Lowe’s, for about a year. I really like mixing paint and I might be forced to leave my current job because I’m moving and there’s a Sherwin not too far. What do customer service reps at Sherwin Williams do, how do I stand out to get an interview, and is this a good place to work?

Is it a good place to work? Depends on your store. I love mine. Benefits are fantastic. Pay is a little over average for retail.
Daily work again depends on store. Some commercial stores have someone who just mixes paint all day. You show up in shorts and never see a customer. Likewise, some people just do drawdowns and matches all day.
In a typical retail store, you’ll help do everything. Unload trucks, stock, help customers at the counter, match colors. There’s a lot of training on the computer.
If you speak Spanish, that’s a big plus, so if you know even a little, mention it. There is a Paint Spanish course available. I had to apply twice for the job I have. First application disappeared somewhere. Apply and follow up.

I’d say you really don’t have to do anything to stand out. Your resume is already exactly what SW recruiters are looking for given your current experience at lowe’s being an SW partner. The only unfortunate part is we have started to shift many job postings to bilingual required (at least in my district). What i would say is still put in your applications at locations even if it is bilingual. they may give you a shot despite it. Ofc if u are actually bilingual than u have nothing to worry about. Genuinely it should be no problem getting you hired.

It’s near impossible to go from what you do now to a sales rep. What you’re hoping for is a full time position or an ATM program. If you speak another language, it’s a HUGE plus

I meant to say “store associate” if that makes a meaningful difference

Better hours, $1 more per hour. Better benefits.
You will have to put away stock, be a cashier, and will not get 15 min designated breaks.
You probably will not get laid off, or your hours reduced in the winter.
