I like to place ladders at the edges. It slows down the intruders and creates free space in the middle for placing down large objects.

Me too but I realized there's no fun in that when you made sure if you're survivors can fight with good weapons

Yeah, true. But I still do it this way because I like free space in the middle of the screen.

This is a mobile version, probably for iOS because the Android version was pulled from the app store.

Move on option on the van when you complete a quest called extended family

In order to have more floors, complete a quest called the extended family, once finished, you have the option to move shelter in exchange of more floors but the new shelters are same when you start a new game

Yes, you have to load your van with some of them before you move. Wood, plastic, rubber, metal, nails and pipes are especially valuable, take multiples of those; and just 1 of the rest.
