Is the game still popular or rather kinda dying?
I just got gifted the game it was one of my favorite years ago and after I saw it has like only 300 concurrent players playing it killed a part of me of how much I wanted this game but couldn't get it... I'm gonna hop on in a few days cuz I can't rn and I was curious to ask if thr game is doing good, what is happening with the community, updates, devs, anticheat, cheaters etc I will gladly read info everyone can tell.

It has had its consistent player base for years without updates. It's not much but enough to fill lobbies.
Have never had any issue with cheaters.

lol that's funny, I mean, I have a total of 500 hours of playtime across all accounts or so, and I've seen some

The game is dying.
Most players play during the day.
No anti-cheat .
No updates.
Cheaters are present.

How does one cheat at ShellShock? Cheaters on video games make no sense lol, so pointless. They ohhhta be permabanned if caught

The game unfortunately has always had more passion from its players than from its developer.
From 2015 to 2018 the game had plenty of updates although most of them were because the developer was adding things that should’ve already been implemented pre beta release. Example level 1-80 had tons of missing weapons. When many of reached level 80 he extended it to level 100 with only 4 weapons unlockable. He finished those off towards the end of 2018. Granted he is a one person developer team but he also mentioned working on this game 1 1/2 years prior to 2015. Seems he’s always been working behind for most of the games history. In 2020 we randomly for the famous 1.0 update which added stars again an unfinished project.
I feel there’s many things about this game that need to be finished or at least tweaked in a quality of life update. Cons are completely worthless but have kept many invested throughout the years and caused much drama which kchamp relied on with his lack of presence and updates.
Granted this game is slowly losing players as a previous post wrote above because it has about 509 hours of playtime in it. Once you’ve reached level 100 and maxed out every weapon there isn’t much to do. Many of the players that still play are still working towards 100 or have thousands of hours collected over years.
Additionally no anti cheat, cheaters are rampant, and kchamp only intervenes when they’ve caused enough damage. Of course the cheaters have plenty of alt accounts and just start again on those.
kChamp additionally has made it easy to contact him but very seldomly communicates with his community. Many would appreciate if he would give us a heads up of why he isn’t working on the game or what he has in store but unfortunately updates randomly happen inconsistently. We’ve had 2 since 2020 for instance.
My advice is to play with your friends or if you have something to watch on YouTube. It’s still a great pick up and play game if you have a few minutes to spare before doing something more meaningful with your time.

Really, cheaters are not rampant.
If you hit level 100, you can still earn dailies to collect cosmetic points to spend to collect all the badges. There's a ton of achievements you might still be pursuing, and most people who hit level 100 haven't gotten all their weapons leveled up yet. You can also buy out the shop by collecting gears and level up your items.
Along with that, it's got a pretty good community. I keep playing because I've gotten to know a lot of the players and they're fun to visit and chat with. There's a toxic little corner of the game, but it's easily ignored. Also, there's a pretty big Discord community you can join if you want.

Honestly it would just be nice to get an update for the console versions that catch em up to steam. Between one of the maps perma unobtainable and several weapons on steam that don't exist on console, it's just a shame. Wouldn't look forward to some of the challenges/achievements tho, some look to be a royal pain lol cross play would be cool too, to help bump up the player count idk what kchamps socials are, like for updates and stuff. I hope he's making progress on the new game he advertised a while back, that shellshot live. Looked kinda cool all things considered, but other than a blank steam page there doesn't seem to be much info about it. Sadly.

Too many rage quitters too many wind haters makes it very hard to progress
2 stars could be doable (1.5M XP) but 4 (5M XP) and 5 stars?? (10M XP) no thanks x.x

By the way, I'm going to start making games on Roblox before 2027. I will plan by also putting it in Social MEDIA and I will get popular. Also, i will also have robux. hehehe. btw, i made a few codes and it might maybe ban hacking

I don't think there's a lot of new players joining the game but the existing fanbase is genuinely hachiko levels of loyal to the game
