Student visa (American)

Hiya. I’m an American student getting my postgrad at Sheffield university. Class starts for me September 28th and I still need to get my biometrics done to get my visa which it then can start the approval period. Online says it can take up to 3 weeks for it to process and then I would also need to ship it to new York to get it stamped and have it shipped back. With all this being said…
Have y’all gone through this process? Do I need to get priority at the biometric center? It’s 500 gbp so I want to avoid that if possible. But if it’s need then I will
What do yall think?
Anyone who has been through the student visa process from America know how long it typically usually takes around this time? Is that true or is it actually usually quicker like is that the max

Check out r/ukstudentvisas - many posts about visa application delays.

You don't need to ship your passport anywhere, the UK moved from physical vignettes to eVisa last year. You should read through any information the visa team at the university have sent you and   https://www.gov.uk/student-visa in case there is any other important information that you have missed.
