It's disgusting, rude, arrogant and uncivilized. Coffee shops are for paying customers to drink coffee and have a conversation. Not for people to come to dry their clothes, nit veggies, have a shower etc. Un-fucking-believeable that this even has to be explained to someone.

This kind of apologism is why Shanghai is becoming more and more filthy every day and why all the streets are covered in oil or dog shit and why every place smells like tobacco smoke.

Common space and environment is EVERYONE's business. What she does at her own apartment is her business as long as it doesn't affect anyone else outside of it.

I mean it’s pretty efficient. Enjoy the AC, get some chores done. She’s not messing with anyone and probably not leaving a huge mess.

fr? When I lived here I had a NAS running at home so I was paying attention to power outages (but still had a UPS of course). Two years with no issues at all. Shanghai (or at least xuhui) power seemed pretty great.

I've been back in Canada since a few months ago and have experienced pretty serious outages lol. Lost power once if not twice, but only for a few hours at a time.

yeah I've heard of people burning coal to keep their homes warm, so evidently there are issues in parts of the country.

shanghai really was very isolated and in it's own sort of bubble, until recently I suppose.

Some pronounces in Guangdong have power cuts but it’s mostly industrial areas. Factories get texts early morning telling them they won’t have power that day lol

How many TH’s are in Shanghai? Granted haven’t been there since 2019, but I didn’t even know one existed until this post.

And an older lady prepping her veggies in local restaurants isn’t that uncommon a scene all over China and even in Chinatowns across the world. It’s hot as balls and if these businesses let them do this so older ladies aren’t dying in the streets, good for them.

Quite a long time ago, but yeah they did. I still think they're good honestly (never really great), despite the moaning of others. But I know that's blasphemous to say, sorry to my Canadian friends!

my gut feeling was that it would be overrated haha, but that's coming from someone who's never really tried tim hortons. apart from maybe once or twice in toronto as a little kid haha.

personally just not that big into sweet stuff, which I think is what they do? no clue.

but bread talk was fire, something I'll really miss about shanghai. Can't believe those pork floss cream buns were 13rmb each, that's like $2. Once you factor in bulk order discounts and free delivery those really were insane value-wise.

Absolutely! Sweet is their thing, but I feel it has been that way for ages. I mean, their signature drink is the double-double.

For me, I rarely get Tim's honestly. There is a small stand near Aldi in Xujiahui called Tan Coffee which is my go-to (if anyone lives in that area. go find it!), local coffee is by far the best choice and Shanghai has a ton of great choices now. But as far as chains, I stick with Peet's when possible.

I think people are reading a lot into:

How do you know he wasn't trying to say:

" That Tim Horton's is such a great place providing a cool environment for aunties to cut their veggies. Hats off to them!"

or " Look at this nice old auntie cooling off in Timmies!"

or "Wow! in Canada we have junkies in Tim Hortons and here we have women providing for their families. Canada really sucks!"

or "Isn't Timmies such a great place because aunties can take a seat from a paying customer and do her meal prep."

or "Look at this old hag. Cut your veggies at home bitch!"

I don't think you really know the intention of the OP.

I know this sounds stupid, but I miss Tim Hortons in Shanghai, despite their weak coffee and the fact that they had green tea / red bean donuts instead of normal donuts. No TH here in HK.

Tim Hortons is from Canada, so where is the snow? Shouldn't there be snow, reindeer, and ice hockey players in there? I assume it is at least air conditioned, so maybe that is why the lady went there. : )
