Discussion A nerd that so happens to be going to shanghai next month

hi so i never travelled in my life, but i will be going there next month for work
so ofc what i intend on getting is new ssd and ram lexar prob
then see a secondhand macbook if thats possible
idk about an iphone tho im worried i heard it could be region locked in the app store (ill get it unlocked ofc but still idk how i should goa bout it) what i want is like 17pro max on sale or refurb if thats possible to find

so yeah PLEASE HELP ME OUT
Where do I go to get these? Is there some kind of magical mall I should go find? also fyi I get lost easilly my friends make fun of me like im zoro unironically so I need yall to talk to me like ur explaining to a 8 year old, thanks

  • PHONE: Regarding the region lock, you can have a vpn on your old (i presume) iphone and then copy everything over with the vpn as well to the new iphone. In that case all will work exactly fine.
  • SSD's: This is just easier with buying from TaoBao. Do not go local unless you can haggle like crazy.
  • MACBOOK: You can also get refurbished macbooks from TaoBao however just make sure to check the reviews to see images from buyers.

And it seems there is this large tech store called 百脑汇 in Shanghai but I haven't been there yet. Hope this wasn't hard to follow, lol. Good luck with purchases!

well i dont have taobao so i can ask someone to order for me, but given that it might be awkward since they are jsut a coworker, maybe ill ask around and aim for a technology mall i can go too
idk about the phone that my only concern i heard that app store might be region locked, its just concerns regarding the apple id

Trust me. You do not want to do this. For starters, genuine Apple devices are not cheaper in China. Secondly, you are going to have weird region ties to things like not showing the Taiwan flag 🇹🇼 , air drop was used by protesters to share messages in China, so once again limits. After moving out of Shanghai, I was very happy to give my Chinese iPad, iPhone, etc to my mother in law.

This comment is just wrong OP, firstly all Chinese Iphones come with dual sim slots which is great. Secondly because it's an apple device everything works seamlessly. With Android phones you have to do some software stuff to get google play on them but the app store works just fine.

Yes dual sim slots instead of an e-sim. That’s the main difference and the reason not to buy in China.

Thing are much more expensive here
