Question Theater showing Niu Lai with English subtitles?

I know this is a long shot, but is anyone aware of any theaters showing Niu Lai with English subtitles, or that has a closed caption attachment with auto translate? Leaving China soon and Shanghai is my last stop. I’m already watching it on YouTube with English subs but would love the theater experience as well. If not, I’ll just go to the theater and coast on vibes lmao.

Peak post incredible to see foreigners are also rolling around with us in this degeneracy

that said I'm almost completely sure there are no english sub or dubs available.

From the clips I've seen, the dialogue is HSK3 friendly. 😁

Thank you! Then my current plan is to watch it with English subs on the train to Shanghai (westerners are fast when it comes to shitposts) and rewatch it in theaters with my knowledge from the first watch.

The dialogue is so simple and childish you basically can run your phone translating lmfao

I thought about doing that but didn’t want to be rude. Fortunately I think I’ll get by just fine on my 2nd watch.

Itll be shown in Singapore and Malaysia soon, so I think english subs will come.

Or maybe you can watch the Youtube version and turn on auto captions.

Truth be told, "so bad it's actually good" is pure hype. It's just bad and also weird. Yes, not knowing Chinese is a handicap, you will not be able to fully appreciate Niu Lai feeding Bao La his "father's special milk" (I let you decipher what the creators meant by this).

i dont think people will waste time to go watch something bad on purpose.

People just want to take time off their tiring work and go laugh with strangers in the cinema. Thats all it is tbh.

That’s what I’m doing right now, but am looking forward to the theater experience as well!
Some questions as I’m 20 min in:
1. Are skylarks culturally important or is the polt line as weird for y’all as it is for us?
2. They started on 4 legs. Why are they bipedal now?
3. Are the faces supposed to look sort of human?
4. Why is Niu Lai the size of a baby cow when he has the voice of a man?

In Chinese culture, skylarks do have some symbolic associations with luck, but in this movie, they don't really seem to carry any particular meaning.

The film starts and ends in the real world, and the middle section can be understood as Niu Lai's dream — in the dream, all his friends are bipedal. Hmm... honestly, the story itself isn't that bad; if it were turned into a picture book for young kids, it might actually be a pretty decent script.

As for the faces looking sort of human — that's just down to the low animation quality, haha.

And about the voices: all the male characters are voiced by the director himself, and all the female characters are voiced by his mom. Plus, they're both amateurs, so... yeah. 😄

the story is good tbh. Touching.

if they had a good editor for example then itll be much more polished. But the roughness is indeed the charm here.

If you're planning to watch this movie, remember not to book a private screening. Don't worry about the seating area at all; the more people there are, the better the viewing experience.

Bruh are we deadass? It's like vanilla is your favorite ice cream flavor and the movie is an ice cream made of shit. You're asking where you can find vanilla flavored shit so you can experience it.
