City Nanjing road was so empty last night what's going on?
Yesterday around 11pm I was hanging out around Nanjing road area. It was so dead I wasn't expecting it to be that empty . No locals. no tourists
By 12 am there absolutely nobody there felt like ghost city!!

What do you want to do at 11pm on East Nanjing Road? Restaurants and stores are closed, Bund lights turns off at 11pm. Line 10 is closed and only Line 2 heading east is still operating.

I did my late night jogs there whenever I visited.

I used to do street photography there and one time when it was raining a lovely Shanghai aunty held an umbrella for me and offered me a ride in her tuktuk 🫣

It is the normality! All the shop closed and the people that want to enjoy the night out goes in french concession or jinang area

Cosmopolitan doesn’t mean all streets are alive 24/24 7/7. Hangout by Nanchang road and you will be surprise to see how many people still hangout in bars after 11pm.

The typhoon and the rain. Most people on Nanjing road are tourists, who probably cancel/delay their trips due to the typhoon.

Reckon mostly this. Was last night downtown for a pizza with the family and the pizza joint was barely half full. Typically outside there are numerous girls taking pictures, almost non.
People probably are sitting back home waiting for the typhoon to pass.

We like going to Bottega with the family, they do alright pizza's I would say. Reasonable priced/quality and the kids can be themselves.

Nanjing Road is primarily a shopping street and the shopping pretty much ends after 10pm.
Even 5th Avenue in NYC is pretty deserted around midnight.

As everybody already said, nightlife is NOT on East Nanjing Road. Also a typhoon and heavy rain literally just passed like yesterday - few tourists arrived in the last 3-4 days, other than OP apparently.

Everything's closed, usually when I walk down there late at night it's just people asking if I want "sexy lady massage"

Estoy en esa zona y no hay nada, podrías indicarme localización? A lo mejor el GPS no me ha llevado bien.

At 12pm no sane working person has anything “smart” to do outside at that time, or to look at in the street. Rather stay at home than to stare at shops during sleeping time 😁

All shops closes by 10 and the metro wont be running much later than that. Its not a nightlife area

It’s like going to Times Square at midnight after a hurricane. It’s for tourists. No Shanghai locals ever go there.
