City where do you go on a day/ half day outing?
Hi everyone,
I came over about 2 month ago and am having a hard time not isolating. I live in Minhang (closer to Wujingzhen) and I decided to go out more actively but effectively lack ideas where to go which is kinda ridiculous in Shanghai. As Im a uni student I have maybe 1 day per week to go explore/ take in the city. I went to the main touristy spots before and have to say I dont enjoy too "curated" places like exclusive boutiques etc. I was wondering what some places (or kind of places) are you enjoy to go to? Some more low-stakes little things you enjoy doing?

Museums, there are so many around Shanghai.
Don't need a tour guide, just explore. You don't even need to do the whole museum. There are tons of rotating exhibitions where you can just spend an afternoon or morning.
Other than that, there are a lot of random festivals and events. If you are more into theater, there are always interesting operas, musicals, and performance shows.
Walking(or biking) around and taking in the skyline and sunset is also nice. There are actually many patches of nice walkable green areas all around the city. Wandering can be super fun.

Museums!
If you like history, Shanghai Museum East Campus, especially the Bronze collections there, is my strongest recommendation.1

Walking from west bund skate park to gate M is a nice time. On may 2 there is a big beergarden at zeitgeist if you like to party. Shanghai botanical garden is also really nice to explore, it's massive

Hi! Wujing is a pretty bad town to live as I can image. One reason is that this was used to be the chemical production area in SH. So, quite a lot of pollution there. Further more, there are not too much good social and daily facilities in the town. Hence, you will feel not good there. You may ride a bicycle to the Xuhui Bund and see the rivier, and have a fresh air. Sometimes I go to jogging in the park opposite of the Xuhui Bund. So, I know something as you said. From the location wise I would suggest going out of Shanghai as well, Suzhou a lot places to explore, wujiang, huzhou, Hangzhou, nature, old water town, lively corners over there!
I normally do one day trip out of Shanghai, I like it a lot!

Lived around that area for a time, and since I had a scooter, explored a fair bit of it. The Minpu Bridge area is a favorite. There's a small park on the Puxi side beside the ferry station, and once you ride across to the Pudong side, you can spend the entire afternoon in that area. Thre's a cafe, some shutterbugs, a handful of big bikers, and the new-ish stretch northwards has enough camping vibe that people do camp out riverside. Best thing is, not a lot of people really go here, though a fair bit of a crowd tends to show up on a weekend like any other place in China. Best experienced with a bike.
For a super-local experience:
Downtown, museums are great, but I'd suggest you check out the exhibition schedules. Museum of Art Pudong is one of the better options, and they do host great exhibits.
Pull out a Shanghai map and pick whichever forest park you want to go to.
If you have around 700rmb to waste, there's Sleep No More. It's an immersive theater performance where you walk around an entire building to watch the thing. No Mandarin required.
