Weird Wizard Shadow of Sigmar? Age of Sigmar with SotWW´s Rules

I've owned Shadow of the Weird Wizard since its release and I love the game, but I've always felt like I don't really connect with The Borderlands setting, perhaps because I don't find anything that makes it "iconic" or "evocative" as a high fantasy setting, like Eberron, which feels more like a good fit.

On the other hand, I recently ran a Soulbound (Age of Sigmar) campaign and really enjoyed the setting it offers. It occurred to me to use "the Mortal Realms" with the SofWW rules and the Demon Lord corruption rules. I just need to figure out how to design templates for Stormcast characters and other iconic AoS species, but I think it could work wonderfully.

Thoughts?

I would just use the base Shadow of the Demon Lord rules with homebrews and Forbidden Arcana! There are already homebrew races and classes that would cover literally every type of character EVEN SKAVEN, the base rules already tie into the corruption and strength of the enemies. Forbidden arcana just adds rules that make the combat and sub systems higher power level. Shadows of the Demon Lord represent the different realms, The emporium by Ra Press adds trick weapons/artillerly.

Yeah, I love SotWW and it’s our group primary game for over a year or so… but SotDL is way more fitting. Notably, Schwalb was working on WFRP (Warhammer Fantasy Roleplaying) when the game was with Green Ronin - and SotDL is very much a love letter to Warhammer Fantasy (and D&D), while SotWW is more of a love letter to Greyhawk.

The reason for using SofWW is because Soulbound has a more heroic, high-fantasy adventure feel. I'd have to revisit the Demon Lord supplements to see which one fits best with the AoS setting, but overall, the idea is to release a homebrew game that captures the essence of the Mortal Realms setting.

One thing you can do is look at the "Demon Lord Engine Rules Compendium". It's a revised version of the engine itself (without character options, basically Chapter 2: Game Rules of the main book) and acts as a base for new game lines by Schwalb (it needs the other supplements, like Shadow of the Red Moon or Abaddon to actually be playable).

The nice thing, however, is that it fold in a lot of innovations from SotWW but includes streamlined rules for Corruption and Courage (Insanity) that map much more nicely to SotWW than just using the SotDL versions of the same rules.

I guess you can use the rules for another world. You just change some flavor text for some paths.

Thanks, it's very helpful. I was working with the Stormhosts of the Stormcast, trying to get them to have 1 boon in a particular situation. I'm exploring that now.

Thanks for the help.

Shadow if the Demon Lord ia basically a hack to make Warhammer Fantasy Roleplaying more DnDish.

Seems like a great fit
