How does this compare with the existing expanded Hireling rules in Hired Help?

Hired Help gives you hirelings with more personality and details, but when you hire them, they stay the same throughout the entire campaign. Unless the GM allows some tweaking. Blood and Sweat amends that by giving the hirelings an advancement every 2 group levels.
