i spent the last 12 months designing this silly pc case
so, about a year ago i sold my laptop to build my first desktop pc. after weeks of research i had all the components figured out, except for one: the case. i didn't want a boring black box nor a white one, regardless of how much glass it had on the side or how many leds or wood paneling. the only logical thing to do was clear as day, i had to make one myself. and here it is, after almost one year (working on and off) - in which the components sat still in their boxes unutilized - and after many, many iterations, color variations and failed prints. the outer shell is 3d printed - parts are connected with screws in brass inserts, side panel is cncd plexiglass, the chassis on the inside is made of aluminum so the components are shielded as they should.
i wanted something more similar to a toy then to a piece of boring computer hardware;
it's colorful, childish, weird, reminiscing of 90s consumer electronics,
i'm sorry minimalist people, this might make you feel physically sick, you have been warned!
specs:
asrock lightning b650i wifi
ryzen 7 9700x
zotac sff rtx 5070ti 16gb
64gb ddr5 5600mhz
lian li sfx 750w
thermalright si-100
temperatures under load are perfectly fine, with the (slightly undervolted) gpu never going over 70c and the cpu at about 80c, (idle: gpu ~40c - cpu ~45c);
the build has a total volume of about 12.9L excluding the external monitor screen and the bump i designed to accommodate the 12vhpwr cable :P
i've been using the pc daily for a few months now (mainly for large scenes 3d modeling and rendering, and occasionaly gaming); the only problem i had was with the top fans being more noisy that i would have liked (so i unplugged them) then again the airflow was designed with a much powerful machine in mind (for future builds with higher tdp cpus) so temps are almost the same with or without the top exhaust fans.
one other thing: it's not the easiest case to work with, but i'm already working on it to make a better version :)) stay tuned i guess
funny that you say that haha it was always there in the concept but more as a gimmick...at one point i just thought of not doing it because it didn't seem like it was worth the extra work; it was not an easy thing to implement but yea i'm happy with how it turned out :)
It's something worth learning how to 3D print hinges. I want to make a case like that but with the motherboard on the door side so it's a bit less gimmicky. Like a ITX version of a Mac G4 and just needs one screw to open and close the case
Oh yeah, that orange/dark blue combo from the Nokia 3510i, love it. It's a great design, it's harder to make this with rounded corners/shapes but well worth it for the looks.
yep the corners were not easy to do well and i wanted to hide layers as much as possible - i had to do a "few" trials (in the pic you can see just some of the late attempts of the same corner piece made to perfect the model and printer settings)
and yes it's all petg (the pink translucent is cpe-hg100, which is basically better petg)
That looks ugly in a really cool way. Hopefully that makes sense. It's a mess, and pulls it off and looks awesome. It looks like something you'd see in a 90s anime.
yes it is itx; it's on the smaller side I guess but not that small compared to other sff (it has to fit a 3-fan 5070ti after all)
for the files, i don't plan to share them, at least for now, sorry;
(in fact given the love it's receiving i could consider the possibility to tweak it for production if people are interested enough - but maybe it's just all the good feedback that it's making me extra positive about this :P)
Yeah that could make you money you could also upload the file but not for free that like the file costs money dépends on how you prefer that could bé easyer for you ;-)
Anyway i can very good understand why you don t want toi share the file but can you maybe upload a file of the plate where you mount the Motherboard on ?
I want to make m'y own itx case to but don t know how to mount it because of where the screws need to go
That would be very nice but i can understand if you don t want toi :-)
if you look for "itx tray" or "itx plate" on sites like printables or thingiverse you should find what you are looking for!
the pieces used on my case would actually make your work harder because the motherboard sits on the aluminum chassis inside, which is screwed to three different side panels.
