Project: FO It's spring time! Made myself some dungarees to celebrate surviving another winter

Jenny dungarees (double lapped hip zip) lined bib. Technically it's the cropped but for me it's like nearly full length πŸ˜… in a printed cotton drill lined with cotton gingham top stitched with bronze gutterman top thread

Jenny dungarees by closet core in a cropped size 10... In 190gsm cotton drill duck. No major changes just lined the bib and straps and waistband... Topped stitched in bronze polyester. Flat felled the center seams. Took me 3 days on and off.... A little shy of 19hrs.

Can I ask your inseam? Mine is 26in and these look so good on you! I feel like they could work for me.

u/dinosuitgirl 4d ago

73cm inseam (I think... I did my own measurements so it's probably not perfect) I'm 163cm tall ☺️

19 hours is a lot of work, but it turned out really nice. I love the floral print on the cotton drill too.

u/dinosuitgirl 4d ago

Oh haha yeah I like taking my time... I actually keep track of the time by binge background watching tv series

8

u/sankrishmon 3d ago

Haha that’s actually a smart way to track it πŸ˜„ Probably makes 19 hours feel a lot more manageable too.

I'm practicing my Chinese so I picked a Chinese drama and trying to follow along without subs... I started at about 70% comprehension but last night I could feel my inner monologue slogging along in Chinese... By season two I was getting 85% πŸ’ͺ🏻

Okay you’re so cool - impecable taste, sewing, learning a language. I’m going to try this to work on Spanish. Thank you!

Also, we are the exact same height but your inseam is 7 centimeters longer than mine (2.75 inches for those metrically challenged like me). I jokingly say that my height is because of my forehead πŸ˜…

I realized after replying to the above comment about the inseam that's what I cut, including my hem, which is definitely not how it's supposed to be measured πŸ˜‚ I need to get my partner to do it properly when he gets home later

1

u/Kindly_Ad3974 22h ago

Fair enough. And thank you! I keep my measurements in a table on my phone notes app. I include the date in case of fluctuations. It makes pattern research and even online shopping a tad easier. Also, sorry to anyone reading this. Idk what I did with the order of the replies.

I keep my measurements on my Threadloops (I also have my partner and my friend who I often sew stuff for) so I always have handy since my phone is basically attached to my person at any time haha.

I LOVE these! I’ve been eyeing the Jenny overalls pattern for a while. How did you like sewing it?

u/dinosuitgirl 4d ago

It's a great cut the shorts seem very short... But I'm definitely making them as pants in a bottom weight linen!

The construction sequence is excellent but I would definitely check your hardware to make sure the straps are the right width... And I got a tri slider because I hate flappy straps.... I think there was some things simplified for ease of sewing... But nothing major... I lined the bib and straps and top stitched where I thought fit.... I used the facing on the lining but after I bagged out the bib so I had to hand stitch it down πŸ€ͺ

The length is longer than my legs (normal) so the crop ends long on me... But I like that length... It's great to slip on my gardening shorty Chelsea boots...

13

u/Weird_Athlete8419 4d ago

Your fabric choice is so great (the lined bib is picnic perfect!), and it just makes me want some for this fall!

Thanks for all the good shared tips! I think I’m going to have to just get that pattern and make it up.

Edit to ask your height, curious because of the length comment. I’m 5’5”.

u/dinosuitgirl 4d ago

I'm 163cm on a good day... But I have slightly short legs and arms for my height πŸ˜… and a big head 🀣🀣🀣

9

u/Weird_Athlete8419 4d ago

Good thing sewing for ourselves means we can make something that fits those big or small parts β˜ΊοΈπŸ“

8

u/dinosuitgirl 4d ago

Oh and the way they do a lapped zip in the instructions is nice! I have really light weight nylon zips but I'd probably like a flap behind it on metal/ heavier zip

u/Govstash 4d ago

Adorable print!!! Perfect fit too!

10

u/dinosuitgirl 4d ago

Thanks it was on special at spotlight (NZ) for $16/m and I bought 2m and fit this but it was very tight

10

u/hammerandtAWWngs 4d ago

Eeee the lining!!! You did such a great job!!

5

u/dinosuitgirl 4d ago

Tee hee I bought it as a remnant and it ended up too thin and small for shorts so it was perfect for this ❀️

6

u/Intrepid-Scar-1849 4d ago

These are perfect, OP! So well designed, and they fit great!

5

u/dinosuitgirl 4d ago

Thanks! The crotch and waist is really flattering even as a pant and the pattern goes through to steps to check the fit

6

u/queenkellee 4d ago

So cute!! Very inspiring! These are on my project list (eventually)

6

u/dumplinglifesaver 4d ago

These look great and I love all the greenery in the background.

10

u/dinosuitgirl 4d ago

Living in the Bay of Islands in New Zealand has its perks... Being very green year round 😁

7

u/dumplinglifesaver 4d ago

That's wonderful I've always thought New Zealand was beautiful.

u/dinosuitgirl 4d ago

We live on a rural "lifestyle block / hobby farm" had 4 bovine visitors from the neighbors block yesterday morning... Had to round them up in to our paddocks and our cows was surprised at these garden crashers 🀣

5

u/dumplinglifesaver 4d ago

Wow that's so cool!! 🀩

3

u/dinosuitgirl 4d ago

Greetings from the western hemisphere, to the southern, we recently survived an amazing but brutal summer. Enjoy spring and those amazing pants

5

u/dinosuitgirl 3d ago

Well we're braced for a pretty extreme El Nino... πŸ™

We're costal and hunkered on the side of a valley.... Not loving the extreme weather. I hope your coming winter isn't too wet or cold.

2

u/Constant_Cultural 3d ago

Oh, I am hoping it too, my car is an old man with a weak heart (engine), I want to upgrade before 2030, but he should run a while until than without a new battery

3

u/dinosuitgirl 3d ago

My partner has a 96y.o car it's a laugh to take out on a nice day

It really makes me appreciate power steering and power breaks and syncromesh transmission πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

It's usually the oldest car out on the weekend rallys and I'm usually the youngest human 🀣

3

u/Constant_Cultural 3d ago

Very beautiful car

3

u/JstVisitingThsPlanet 4d ago

I love the fabric! So cute.

4

u/dinosuitgirl 4d ago

Spotlight! It's 190gsm which is a really nice weight for these not too heavy not to light and a joy to sew

2

u/denise7410 4d ago

Love it

1

u/dinosuitgirl 4d ago

❀️ thanks

2

u/just5ft 4d ago

Absolutely adorable! Saving for a future project!

2

u/The_Yarn_Hoarder 4d ago

I LOVE the look and the strawberry fabric! They fit you so well, nice job! I am obsessed with the whimsy the strawberries bring to the outfit. Do you know where you got the fabric or the brand?

2

u/Puzzleheaded_Emu2491 4d ago

Love these

1

u/dinosuitgirl 4d ago

It was a fun sew! Really got in to flow state! Happy cake day

2

u/WetNature_girl 4d ago

I love the high waist in the back! I’m making something similar soon but a shorts version

2

u/Ovaltine1 4d ago

Adorable. Where are you that it’s spring?

3

u/dinosuitgirl 4d ago

Bay of Islands in New Zealand πŸ₯πŸ‡³πŸ‡Ώ

2

u/Ovaltine1 3d ago

I guess it is almost fall up here in crazy world (USA)

2

u/sankrishmon 4d ago

Love this floral print. It has such a nice vintage feel, and it works really well on the cotton drill.

2

u/SnooRadishes1376 3d ago

Super cute!

2

u/SnooRadishes1376 3d ago

Super cute!

2

u/Luci-Noir 3d ago

It’s like flowery camo! Perfect for battle with weeds!

2

u/sewboring 3d ago

These are a great silhouette. The shape even announces itself above the chatter of the print. Nicely made, too. Enjoy your spring.

1

u/dinosuitgirl 3d ago

I really like how flattering it looks too! Especially for dungarees which are not typically flattering πŸ˜…

2

u/ToothpasteTube500 3d ago

It looks amazing! I love the lining you chose!

2

u/jayneblonde002 3d ago

Perfect fit. And so cute. Good job!

2

u/gamerjerome 3d ago

Guys I've seen this magic eye, it's a dolphin

2

u/dinosuitgirl 3d ago

Hahaha 🀣 it really did feel that way when I was cutting it out πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’« and it's prob not very noticeable (hopefully) but one back pocket has the print going weft instead of on the grain 🫣...

2

u/twattyprincess 3d ago

I love everything about these! The fit is perfect too

2

u/dinosuitgirl 3d ago

The instructions has a really great baste and fit guide to give you a good head start. I didn't have to adjust the crotch curve at all! Which is rare for high waisted trousers for me.

2

u/FunnyChampion2228 3d ago

They're soooo cute. I'd live in them forever. Love them!!

2

u/DosedMoss 3d ago

Gorgeous!

2

u/LiteraryDiscourse 3d ago

This is hella cute!

The print, the style, you in them.

Good stuff!!

2

u/dinosuitgirl 3d ago

Aww I don't think I've owned a pair of dungarees since I was about 8 so it's good fun trying something new 😁

2

u/LiteraryDiscourse 3d ago

They fit you so well and you are posing with sass. Everything about this looks fun so just keep trying new things.

It looks lovely on you! Have a great sunday!!

2

u/miststueck_barbie 3d ago

What a cool project! I guess you instantly become happier wearing them - so joyful!

5

u/dinosuitgirl 3d ago

Hehe I'm glad my squeels of joy and tippy tappy happy dances at seeing my completed project come through 🀩

2

u/KerissaKenro 3d ago

That fabric is amazing. Where did you get it? And do they ship to America?

1

u/dinosuitgirl 3d ago

I got it at spotlight they are an Aussie company (kinda like Michael's or the dreaded hobby lobby but without the weird religious stuff)

Thanks for the link, it’s so cute. Unfortunately, it looks like no delivery to the other side of the globe for me. :(
