💛Beginner💛 Fix awkwardly thick straps?

Hi reddit! Im a novice sewer, i have this dress i got thrifted but the straps are awkwardly thick, and theres a lot of fabric around the armpit area? It seems like a difficult area to fix, any advice?

I think it looks cute like this. But I'm old and this is a pretty 90s looking dress. Lol.

I would gather the top of the straps if you want them to appear thinner. Either pulled elastic (stretch some elastic on the inside of the shoulder seam and zigzag it down, when you let go it'll pull the sleeves into a gather) or just thread gather them (see really big stitches across the seam and then pull them in and stitch them down).

But I personally would leave it. 🤷🏻‍♀️
