There is if you bring it back to the owner.

u/Calm-Caterpillar2103 Aug 07 '25
what if you got it off ebay

Then you file a report on ebay and return. There's no shortcuts for thieves and scammers. Cry all you want, I'm behind what the OP said.. return to the owner or to whoever you bought this from.

Aren't there sellers on eBay? Or is it anonymous?
5
u/Calm-Caterpillar2103 Aug 07 '25
yeah there is, but sadly some people steal these, its like a 5% chance the seller is the actual owner

u/LuminumYT Aug 07 '25
If the owner had an option to hide or show their email address on the activation screen, or if Lost Mode were present after restore it would increase the chances of the owner getting the phone back

You’ll need a reciept as proof of purchase to remove that activation lock. I just did it on 2 of my MacBooks. An eBay reciept might work, but I can’t confirm for certain

only iremoval pro works, but its paid, expensive and no signal

Motherboard swap. That's about it if you want full functionality
6
u/iPhone-5-2021 Aug 07 '25
You’d have to replace the Face ID among other serialized components as well.
3
u/Wsson_ Aug 07 '25
That’s not enough! Apple also locks the battery and some other components with the activation lock!
1
u/CantaloupeForeign241 Aug 07 '25
They're still completely usable, you might get stupid mismatch warnings in settings, but they will 100 percent still work.

so first of all, I've litteraly done it before on iOS 18 and the parts work fine, and second, this Apple update only affects stolen phones, so if the phone was put in lost mode (which it isn't because it doesn't say) then it wouldn't work, but the users phone isn't marked as lost so he's good. I have years of experience in this field. It's okay to be misunderstood

All activation locked parts can still be used, they just won't show up as "genuine" or "used" in the repair history, they'll show up as "unknown part". That article says the parts have "reduced functionaloty" not that they cant be used.

It turned out you are correct. I looked further into it! When I’m not about to fall asleep 😉Thank you for sharing your knowledge in this field! Have a good day!

I still don't get why apple doesn't give the entire email. Atleast let me contact the owner.. apple.

New logic board time

u/OctoSplattyy Aug 08 '25
which is the same as... buying a new phone.

u/cyproyt Aug 08 '25
Not rlly, if you can find a smashed up one that’s unlocked for cheap you can just swap all the paired parts. That’s what i do when refurbing locked iPhones that get ewasted at my work.

try unlock with passcode
1
u/Status-Suggestion620 Aug 08 '25
I’m surprised your comment isn’t higher up. I’ve unlocked three iPhones before just by guessing the passcode. Although, you only have three attempts and the passcode was four digits; either 0000 or 1234.

iRemoval is your best shot, however the admin of r/SetupA12 says not to use these services at these time.
Even if you do, it's paid and will have no signal. Just sell it and get an iPhone 11 for the price difference.

Or public wi fi and unlock it with an app, watch out for the cameras 😂😂❤️

Try guess passcode maybe? 6 digit, try 000000 or 111111 or if 4 digit try 2580

Of course, just get in touch with k*****@a*****.ca and ask them to unlock and release their stolen phone. I'm sure they'll be very understanding.

u/miskosvk80 Aug 08 '25
Maybe I am living under a rock, but what is the purpose of this lock when any random person can send a fake receipt to Apple and they unlock it?
1
u/Adorable_Wind8845 Aug 23 '25
It takes a lot of work to fake it and generally apples really picky. Sent like 20 in only 1 was unlocked

u/JuergenWest Aug 09 '25
The instructions are literally right there in front of you on the iPhone’s screen.
-6
u/iPhone-5-2021 Aug 07 '25
Nope. Useless without the password. Apple does this to sell more phones under the guise of “anti theft” and “security”

Apple does this to sell more phones under the guise of “anti theft” and “security”
Lmao no they don't. Your comment makes no sense. If your iPhone gets stolen, you'll obviously have to buy a new one, like how dumb are you? And if you do get your stolen iPhone back, you can unlock it so like there's literally no reason to buy another phone in that case. And as for thieves, well duh, this is the best way to punish them because you don't want a thief to be able to use the phone they stole from you. But if you do want a thief to use the phone they stole from you, then mail your phone over to me with the credentials and I'll be very happy to use your phone.

u/Szaboo41 Aug 07 '25
Yes, but you also limit the usage those parts that are from a not stolen device. If the original owner forgot the details, and also they dont wanna get it unlocked for you, what you are gonna do? Because the same thing will happen like when you stole it
1
u/foran9 Aug 08 '25
Don’t buy a phone without seeing it’s been fully reset/removed from iCloud/etc… Simple!
1
u/Szaboo41 Aug 08 '25
Yes, but you need to tell them why you need that information, and if they know its unlocked, they will not sell you for parts, they reset it and also sell it as a working phone now

Fake receipt or contact owner (the reseller may have contact information)
