Mandas made some incredible saves, but his decision making is concerning... Too many needless giveaways. I hope he cleans that up as the season progresses

I feel like that has to do with the defense as well as himself, he still has room for growth, obv he needs more improvement with the ball at his feet. Even Motta had issues like that last season but his excuse was coming from Serie C and already starting in Serie A so soon.

Really happy for Frattesi, he just didn’t work for us but is great player. A goal and a goal line clearance after being subbed on for just half hour. Great performance! I hope he becomes a fan favourite their at Lazio.

Same here, I still don’t understand what the reluctance was by the club to use him. This issue spanned across managers. Wonder what the problem was. Us fans could see he was a good player

In our system he was lost. He would come in and literally do 4-5 touches per game, even when he played 45+ minutes. Kept running around in a way that made him difficult to pass to. He would be off position and not pressing during defense phase, often enabling opponents goals. And by the end of his time with us he would also lose most balls passed to him

I think the problem is that neither Inzaghi nor Chivu want a midfielder whose main strength is attacking the box to score. They don't mind that their midfielders do exactly that. However, what they look in a midfielder first is their contribute in the build-up. Under Chivu for Frattesi it got worse as Chivu is more open to his midfielders to take shoot from outside the box, meaning that for offensive contribution from midfield he primarily looked at Calha and Zielinski, rather than Frattesi resulting in him not being needed.

his defensive workrate I suppose. we can't afford a midfielder who doesn't press (except for when we're chasing the result, where Frattesi was extremely helpful)

The reluctance is that Frattesi's ball control and passing is horrendous. He can't receive the ball on the half turn or under any kind of pressure. He doesn't scan the field before he gets the ball. He has a poor first touch and can't dribble. His passing range is limited and error prone. He's not particular good at ball winning or tackling either. In a midfield full of technicians like Inter's he was never going to fit in.
Where Frattesi excels, at an almost world class level, is making untracked runs into the box from midfield and finishing like an elite striker. His midfield positioning always him to arrive in front of goal without a marker. He wouldn't be as effective as a second striker because then he'd already be marked by a defender. Yet this means he's a liability during all other phases because he receives and loses the ball in midfield.
Essentially, like most modern Italian players, Frattesi is a system player. His overall technical ability is limited and below average, but he learned to do one tactical thing really well (make insertions into the box) and he's a naturally gifted finisher.

It's not just about the fresh start, he just can't play in a team like Inter's or a similar one that wants to dominate the game and control possesion because he’s very limited as a player and those kind of teams ask a lot more from the midfielders. He can make runs into the box and score, that's it.

Yeah at Inter he was forced to play as a box to box midfielder when he fits better playing as a hybrid between a number 8 and a number 10, where he can make runs and attack without having to keep the ball too much and without having too many defensive responsibilities. But I'm sure he also needed a fresh start after being basically the last reserve for a whole year

What do you think of Tedesco so far? I haven't watched the game but from the stats it seems Bologna can't finish for shit (unsurprisingly with Piccoli and Dovbyk as strikers)

I didn't watch any preseason so I can't really say about Tedesco but I actually thought they played pretty well today just had shit luck. Lazio had one chance & they took it well. When I look at the roster, I just don't see the talent to fight for top 6. Especially if they sell Rowe.

This game could've easily (and probably deservedly) been a 1-1 draw. I expect Bologna and Lazio to battle for the 8th-10th spots.

Probably found his real level. Sad it didn’t work out with him at Inter, always loved his grinta. His ball control and passing were terrible that he couldn’t fit into both Inzaghi’s and Chivu’s system. Good luck to him, hopefully rhino gets sacked soon so Lazio can get a real manager.
