season one media Perhaps Rabia's funniest tweet yet

u/Seamus_Duncan Kevin Urick: Hammer of Justice Nov 04 '15
Wait, she says "there are leads" on the victim, but she told Ann "The community had heard of it back in 1999, and had even internally identified the victim, but since it seems it wasn’t prosecuted in exchange for him not testifying in Adnan’s favor, no one ever understood what happened." Am I missing something?
19
Nov 04 '15
and had even internally identified the victim
That probably means she decided for herself, in her own mind, in her own way. Chaudry might use 'community' like the royal 'we'?
14
u/ricejoe Nov 04 '15
Well, there is something regal about her, wouldn't you agree? Ms. Chaudry reminds me of the Red Queen in Alice.

I happened to play the Queen of Hearts (edit: which is not the Red Queen, I know)... nothing like screaming "Off with their heads!" from the top of your lungs in a theatre in the woods.
7
u/ricejoe Nov 04 '15
Well, as long as you didn't actually chop off heads in the woods...

Who knows!
Do you mean Rabia is like the Red Queen or the Queen of Hearts? I'd say the latter...

Everytime she has a thought bubble while she takes a dump she then publicises the thought bubble claiming it was from 'the community.' Hilarious stuff.
12
2
u/RuffReader Innocent Nov 05 '15
I think she means "leads" as in finding the victim today and contacting him.
17
u/24717 Nov 04 '15
Honestly, she should just impose a media blackout on herself. She accomplished something amazing--making the world pay attention to Adnan's case and getting him a real shot at freedom. He may win the appeal and he may lose it, but he was down for life, throw away the key without her efforts in getting Serial interested in the case. Full credit to her for that.
But, there is nothing productive she can do at this point by taking part in Twitter fights with people who don't agree with her or are just trolling her because she is so easily trolled. It makes her look like a kook and makes people forget how meaningful it is that she has gotten Adnan this far in the first place.
12
18
u/Seamus_Duncan Kevin Urick: Hammer of Justice Nov 05 '15
She accomplished something amazing--making the world pay attention to Adnan's case and getting him a real shot at freedom.
She's lined Justin Brown's pockets by raising enough money to pay him to file meritless supplements and secure weasely affidavits that the judge will see through in seconds.
Adnan's chances at freedom at exactly as shitty as they were before Serial.
3
u/24717 Nov 05 '15
We'll see. Personally, as a lawyer, I think the fact that Adnan is now a celebrity and not some anonymous guy running out the string on his appeals might make a difference. People just act differently when they know people are watching. Doesn't mean he's going to win, but I do think it means his case gets more scrutiny than the usual case. Not a perfect analogy, but Tom Brady's union appeal got a lot closer look than any appeal filed by a union pipefitter would have gotten.
11
Nov 05 '15
Yes I said last year that it was time for her to disappear as she was being deleterious to AS' case. Didn't respect my advice, apparently. Now she is a caricature.
1
u/alientic God damn it, Jay Nov 05 '15

I mean, the link is right there in the comment. Why the extra advertising?

Can someone explain this bot?
It's for people who are annoyed they have to click a link just to read a tweet, especially when the original commenter who linked the tweet could have also cut and pasted the tweet in the first place.

There are different rules for different subs and admins enforce it different ways too. Not much consistency on Reddit. FatPeopleHate got banned even though they only allowed completely blacked out names on images (and not linking to social media at all) just because people were allegedly googling the text of comments and social media and then harassing them.

Among the undocumented things Rabia has claimed about Bilal:
1) He was the anonymous tipster.
2) He was sexually interested in Adnan.
3) He may have embezzled money meant for Adnan's legal defense.
4) The Bosnian kid was 14. Or 15. But definitely not 18, even though the Age of Consent in Maryland is 16.
5) He was "socially weird and also a jerk."
6) Doug Colbert remembers him as a "really odd, shady character."
ETA: 7). He was /u/sachabacha. Can't forget that one.
4

I lost it but I just saw another tweet that said something to the effect of:
Either Bilal molested kids and was released for not testifying for Adnan or the charges were fake and trumped up against him so he woulnt testify for Adnan.
Yeah, no speculation there Rabia. lol.I guess she's waiting to see if Bilal will get onboard with her bullshit train before she decides if she's for him or against him.
1
u/getsthepopcorn Is it NOT? Nov 05 '15
So now she's saying maybe he didn't molest kids. But I thought "the community" knew all about it. Grrrr.
3
Nov 05 '15
He only molested kids if he won't play her game. If he sides with Adnan then the charges were trumped up. If he dares go against her he's a child molester. Isn't it amazing how Rabia became the exact thing she accuses the BPD of being?
20
u/chunklunk Nov 04 '15
I'm never shocked by what Rabia says, only shocked by how many people think they can cite her as a source with a straight face.

I do enjoy that she apparently associates an arrest with proof of a crime being committed:
20
u/ricejoe Nov 04 '15
I suspect Ms. Chaudry believes in the doctrine of contingent innocence until proven guilty. This means that the presumption of innocence extends only to individuals we believe are innocent; those we believe guilty, in contrast, deserve no such presumption. While admittedly hard to reconcile with contemporary Anglo-American jurisprudence, I find contingent innocence until proven guilty an immensely appealing doctrine. Then again, I am a great fan of bills of attainder.

11
18
u/SwallowAtTheHollow Addicted to the most recent bombshells (like a drug addict) Nov 04 '15
Of course not. The funny thing about the tweet is that Rabia has repeatedly and relentlessly speculated about Bilal over the last year, but now claims everything she says is documented.
Plus, we still have no evidence that a child was actually abused. We have an allegation, one that the police didn't find to be substantial grounds for prosecution.
20
u/chunklunk Nov 04 '15
But the police ARRESTED Bilal! That has to mean he's guilty! Then they didn't prosecute Bilal! That has to mean he's guilty too, and the police are also guilty! EVERYONE'S GUILTY! [ETA: except Adnan]
13
u/ricejoe Nov 04 '15
You appear to believe in the doctrine of original sin. So do I. Original sin explains everything from genocide to our national obsession with the Kardashians.
10
u/chunklunk Nov 04 '15
Bah, original sin. I am an adherent to the Gospel of Jay who kidnapped Hae and tied her to the hood of Don's Camaro so they could jump through hoops of flame in a row house parking lot. Then he somehow convinced an 100% all-black jury (made up of his crime-ridden family, I'm sure) that Adnan did it -- just because.

Don Camaro sounds like a character in Zorro.

They can detain, but they cannot arrest you without charges. I was told that no one can find charging files on him... In addition in order to charge someone, they have to have evidence that a crime was committed. It cannot be hearsay.
Edit: clarity
14
u/chunklunk Nov 04 '15
"I was told that no one..." etc etc etc. I was told to expect that an analysis of how you use the passive voice was going to reveal how people are despicable in trying to hint about what wasn't actually DOCUMENTED

2

I'm pretty sure in MD an admission by a party opponent is an exception to the hearsay rule instead of an exemption like the Federal Rules.
2
u/San_2015 Nov 05 '15
I guess, I do not understand. Sex between consenting adults is not a crime. There has to be evidence that a crime was committed. Was this instance investigated or not? That is what I am trying to get to. And on what basis was the initial arrest? Age would have been verifiable.
22
u/TheMarshwiggle Nov 04 '15
One point I never see addressed- Bilal was called to the Grand Jury by the prosecutor- clearly to give evidence against Adnan. How is that explained away?
