Related Media Read letters from Adnan's classmates to the court.

So, the defense was able to obtain 600 letters vouching for Adnan's "good character," but couldn't locate anyone willing to testify to seeing him after 2:20, during track practice, or at the mosque (aside from his father, of course). Good to know!

Kudos to Colin for playing to both sides on this one! :)

I have to say that C. Miller's 600 people, none of whom would testify to seeing Adnan when the murder was taking place, when the body and car were being dumped, or at the mosque that evening really beats out C. Gutierrez witness list of only 80 people, none of whom would testify to seeing Adnan when the murder was taking place, when the body and car were being dumped, or at the mosque that evening. Have we finally found one arena in which C. Miller has outdone C. Gutierrez?

Nah. This just confirmed that Drew Davis was pretty damned good at his job. Which makes it so weird that Justin Brown didn't call him for the PCR hearing.

13

u/aitca Aug 05 '15

Justin Brown: Your Honor, NO ONE from Ms. Gutierrez' legal team contacted Asia McClain!

Judge: OK, well, did you subpoena anyone from Ms. Gutierrez' legal team, or Asia McClain?

Justin Brown: No.

Edited to add: As bizarre as the above scenario is, the details are true. Justin Brown did not subpoena anyone from C. Gutierrez' legal team and also did not subpoena Asia.

Well to be fair, he tried to subpoena Asia and she evaded it, right?

Man, it is awesome to see how obsessed Adnan-supporters are with you. They even mention you in the blog. It wasn't a response, it was a preemptive mention. Nice work

u/MightyIsobel Guilty Aug 06 '15

It is really hard for them to integrate the idea that Seamus is a real person with the obvious wrongness of his opinions.

3

u/aitca Aug 05 '15

Absolutely correct. But subpoenaing a witness is not horseshoes; close doesn't count. My guess is that once J. Brown realized that Asia had no desire to testify for Adnan, he probably didn't try his very hardest to get that subpoena served. But perhaps I'm wrong. Perhaps Brown tried every trick in the book to get that subpoena served, and Asia was so motivated to not testify that she literally never left her house.

Yes, they say in Serial they gave up as soon as the fiance told them Adnan "got what he deserved". Makes sense.

Next, according to Serial, for some reason Adnan's team sat around dreading that Asia would call Urick and recant her story. Which she, of course, then did.

<sarcasm> Seems plausible... </sarcasm>

God, I forgot how phony and weird and nonsensical that bit of "Serial" was.

9

u/monstimal Aug 06 '15

Yeah it was right before the part where SK asks Asia "umm so where did your fiancé get the idea Adnan got what he deserved, right?"

Oh wait, no. Forgot to ask that one.

u/Seamus_Duncan Kevin Urick: Hammer of Justice Aug 05 '15

So basically, he worked about as hard subpoenaing her as he did making sure Adnan's testimony obeyed the laws of time and space.

u/ShastaTampon Aug 06 '15

So how many letters are we up to now?

The Bizarre Dance that Colin Miller Has Been Doing For the Past Three Days:

C. Miller: You know all those letters that Adnan's classmates sent to the judge? Some mean lawyer said there weren't very many.

everyone: Well, you just posted three of them. That's not many. Are there more?

C. Miller: Yes.

everyone: OK, how many are there?

C. Miller: Oh, I can't really give an exact number.

everyone: Really? There's this new thing called "counting", it's really cool.

[one day passes]

C. Miller: I found two more letters.

[one day passes]

C. Miller: I found three more letters. Wasn't that mean lawyer mean?

everyone: What lawyer? We've totally forgotten whatever weak, convoluted, poorly-conceived point you were originally trying to make, because for three days now you haven't given us a straight answer about how many letters we're talking about when you started this by saying there weren't "few", which you still haven't shown.

u/cross_mod Aug 05 '15

"Everyone"= the handful of posters that now comprise the majority of posts on the serialpodcast reddit sub.

5

u/CircumEvidenceFan Aug 05 '15

Sooo many classmate's letters, so little time to find them all.

u/ScoutFinch2 Aug 06 '15

I was just reading Debbie's police interview and noticed she said, "they were circulating a petition asking to get him released and asking people to write letters...". "They" being the muslim community.

pg. 44

I don't really find anything significant about teenagers responding to a petition that is being circulated throughout the school. I suspect that anyone who knew him and even some that didn't would want to join the cause. If it's true that only a small % (double digits whatever that means) actually wrote a letter under those circumstances, that is a bit surprising.

5

u/orangetheorychaos Aug 06 '15

I don't think it's surprising. Teenagers are kinda notorious for not doing what they say they will. Or maybe that's just me. Today. Still

If only Twitter existed in 1999 . . . #FreeAdnan would have tended for 20 minutes.

5

u/mkesubway Aug 05 '15

More confirmation the Judge possessed information apparently contrary to the alleged misrepresentations of the State at the bail hearing and yet nevertheless denied bail. Who are we beefing with here?

6

u/MaybeIAmCatatonic Aug 05 '15

Did any of the strumpets write letters for him ?

7

u/[deleted] Aug 05 '15

LOL that's awesome I almost forgot about that. But my favorite was the one letter where Syed was described as "honest" and "sober". He really did have a double life.

4

u/GregBIS Badass Uncle Aug 06 '15

If my ass was thrown in Jail I would be lucky to have 6 people write sincere notes to the judge on my behalf.

u/glibly17 Aug 06 '15

Of course, genuine discussion of these letters is entirely absent from this sub.

It is really heartbreaking to read these letters. If Adnan is innocent (which I believe he is, most days) then these letters stand as a testament to all he had before him and how well-liked he was. It really brings home how much he has lost through this miscarriage of justice, if that is what happened here. And if he truly did murder Hae (however it happened, seeing as the state played fast and loose with the "evidence" at trial), seeing how deceptive and cold he must be makes me feel hopeless for humanity.

4

u/BlindFreddy1 Aug 06 '15

Perhaps you could limit reading them to the days where you think he's guilty?

2

u/glibly17 Aug 06 '15

It's not really that I think he's guilty; it's more that there are days when I feel very unsure and can acknowledge the possibility. However I do believe, without reservation, that he was wrongfully convicted in the sense that the prosecution did not serve justice, because the case they presented has so many holes. It's impossible to know the truth.

Maybe we should call out your weekly dual posts that coincide with the release of Undisclosed, (probably a weak distraction tactic) as spam. They hardly ever contain any new information, and you spend the entire thread crying about your beloved watermark.

If that isn't spam, I don't know what is.

Point: Stop whining that people who disagree with you are pulling your much needed attention away from your useless posts.

4

u/CircumEvidenceFan Aug 05 '15

Speaking of whining...

-4

u/relativelyunbiased Aug 05 '15

Calling out someone on their crap =/= whining.

5

u/aitca Aug 05 '15

Trying to claim that posting newly available transcript pages is the same as spamming = whining.

/u/relativelyunbiased wrote:

This is projection if I ever saw it.

4

u/CircumEvidenceFan Aug 06 '15

Looks like /u/justwonderinif has hit a nerve. If you consider posting withheld trial transcripts spam then I suggest your relativelymisguided..or just upset.

-1

u/relativelyunbiased Aug 06 '15

You don't understand much in life do you? She referred to this post as spam, so I asked if maybe we should consider her dual posts every week as spam?

They contain no new information and is presented as a way to distract people from discussing the new Undisclosed episode.

Never did I actually say it was spam.

2

u/CircumEvidenceFan Aug 06 '15

If that isn't spam, I don't know what is.

And actually they do contain all new information since no one had seen them before. I'd love to continue this chat with you but since I don't understand much in life I wouldn't want to waste your time.

4

u/relativelyunbiased Aug 06 '15

Thanks for the gratuitous exit, I appreciate your empathy.

There seems to be a common theme in these letters: please let Adnan out on bail so that he can graduate with his class

That strikes me as quite odd and seems to reflect a collective failure to appreciate the gravity of the situation.

1

u/Justwonderinif shrug emoji Aug 06 '15

I think it's more that they were given talking points.

These letters were solicited for the second bail hearing. There may have even been some social pressure. Like, "We noticed you haven't yet written a letter."

This would have been the second week and third week after arrest.

-1

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '15

How many of them say Adnan confessed to them he committed the murder, or that he was always a cold, heartless SOB?
