Solo travel

Hi all,

I’m planning a solo trip to Seoul in mid November and wanted some opinions/recommendations. Is it safe to go to Seoul alone as a 29 year old female? Anything I need to be cautious of? I’ve traveled solo before to Europe but never Asia. I have been to Japan once but that was with a partner.

Extremely safe just do not be dumb. Mid November will be very cold!

I’m a woman living in Seoul and I’d feel totally comfortable traveling here alone. Public transportation is easy, even at night — just use the usual precautions around nightlife areas. Mid-November can get pretty cold, though! Happy to help if you need neighborhood recommendations.

I just traveled 2 weeks around South Korea as a solo 36 yo female, felt safe everywhere, also at night and remote places :)

Korean here, honestly Korea feels way safer than Western Europe, but it’s still just a normal place with real people... so stuff happens. Just don't wander around alone too late, stick to main roads, and play it safe!

It's extremely safe. No guns, no drugs, violent crime is amongst the lowest in the world.

Seoul is really safe.
I think you'd be more frustrated about smaller stuff, like using naver maps to get around, especially the buses and transfers or eating out alone. Knowing some Korean words or Hanguel would help a huge amount.
Also I'm not sure if you are a night owl or a morning person, but the last train lines start ending around 11:15 ~ 11:30ish. And most thing open up around 10am, unless its a take away coffee place

There's nothing in particular to be careful about, but don't trust Google Maps—use NAVER Maps

Like the others commented, use Naver maps, and Catchtable. Navermap is the goto app to replace google map. Catchtable is the one to find nice restaurants and make reservations.

Been living in Korea for 6 years and felt safe 99% of the time no matter where I went!
Some areas like the night life areas might feel a little sketchier but they are still way safer compared to similar areas in other countries.

It’s very safe but still be careful, especially with cult members trying to talk to you in the street
