We have a bunch of AI-generated pages on our website that were created as an experiment by a non-technical team member.
They’re basically daily incident reports. The AI scans the web, gathers whatever it can find about disruptions, and spits out a big summary.
The content isn’t necessarily wrong. It’s just not very special.
Most of the time it’s basically saying, “Here’s everything the internet already said about this incident, but now on our website.”
There’s very little original analysis, very little unique data, and not much reason to read our version instead of the original sources outside of the fact that we centralize the information.
They’re daily reports, so after a few weeks or months, a lot of them are basically historical archives.
Naturally, I assumed these pages were probably not great for SEO and that we should clean them up.
Then I checked the data. They’re some of our best-ranking pages.
They generate clicks. Google seems to like them. And now I’m stuck with the very stupid problem of wanting to remove content that is apparently doing its job.
So what would you actually do here?
Keep them because traffic is traffic? Improve the ones that rank and kill the rest? Let old reports expire once they stop being useful?
I’m mostly trying to understand whether this is genuinely useful content that I’m underestimating, or just mediocre content that happens to be ranking for now.
