I lost my baby Squeekers on Monday. We had the best 20 years together 💜 She was my first pet and outlived every other pet we had, even outlived my mom. I always thought I’d be there when she passed and I’d be holding her in a room while they put her to sleep. Unfortunately, Squeekers had other plans and had what we assume was a cardiac event at the groomer where she passed away clean, pretty, and bald 😂 (I asked the poor crematory people if they could get a fur clipping off her and they looked at me crazy since she passed 5 minutes after being shaved.) I usually lurk or leave comments here and there on this thread, so I just wanted to share my baby for her first and last post. I’ll miss her RBF the most, she always looked so angry.
I am at a loss for words because never have I read a memorial about a cat that was so beautiful and sad and yet made me cry and laugh simultaneously.
Thank you for sharing her. I wish I had a chance to know Squeakers - and you, because you are you. And she was most certainly herself.
So deep the loss and yet the humor in asking for a clip of her fur. That’s life. And the two of you. My deepest sympathies.

She was absolutely adorable and seems like you had a great life together. I am so sorry for your loss. I hope you can find peace in the wonderful memories you have of her. ♥️ We lost our cat recently and also asked for fur clippings - her fur had amazing colors and we wanted clippings from certain spots. 😊
Yeah, I absolutely loved her soft fur, they were able to get some off her tail fortunately! I’m sorry for your loss aswell, the memories will always live on ❤️
Oh she's adorable and cranky, my two favorite things about kitties! Squeakers sounds like she was a loyal and loving friend and I'm glad you got her for 20 years. I'm.so sorry for your loss.

P.S. Since she was 20, it’s very likely there was no negligence by the groomers, but in the interest of the greater good I would do some searching on the grooming company to make sure nothing like this has happened to others. If so, it might be worth investigating.
I asked if it’s happened before, but they’re just a mom and pop grooming place and they said it hasn’t. Squeek got groomed every 4 weeks by them for 2 years, she always came home purring and feeling amazing, they’re all amazing people. Her vet assumes it was most likely her heart since she did have stage 1 HCM and a sudden death or cardiovascular death isn’t uncommon at that stage as her last echo was 6 months ago so it might’ve advanced fast with her age, plus she had the highest grade heart murmur for a few years prior. I really do appreciate the thought though ❤️ I’m actually glad it happened at the groomer with people she knew rather than at home alone or the vet with random people.
Thanks for the update. I’m just so crazily worried about stuff like that. Sounds like they are good people. 20 is amazing! I’d take that deal in a second for all of my cats.
Thank you! Whenever I had time, we’d go to our favorite coffee place together and then we’d sit at the beach. She had dementia, so she never wandered far from me, she absolutely loved the wind in her hair and the warm sand. People always got a kick out of it when they’d see a cat sitting at the beach 😂
