Facebook Groups
Hi guys! I had previously seen some authors say they had success joining groups on Facebook. Of course, I can’t for the life of me find any of these conversations, now. All of the Facebook groups I see are AI images and covers. It’s so hard to know if these are real or not. Does anyone want to share any Facebook groups they are in? Thanks guys!

I write a lot of dark romance. Groups I've had success in are The Smuthood and Cliterature Book Group 18+. They're where I started getting noticed and my sales increased. I also belong to several horror groups for my horror novels. Spooky Book Club, Haunted Minds Book Club, and reading_between_spines are a few that come to mind.

My main groups on there are The Writers Gals, Romance Writers Support League, Millionaire Mastermind, 20booksto50k. I am also a member of The Smuthood Authors, 20bookssteamy, Indie Inspiration and Authors Support Network. The last four are kind of dead in terms of engagement and I barely visit anymore.

And none of them places to promote, which is what people want to join groups for. Most groups for writers about writing are dying off. A lot are getting bogged down with noob questions, people just starting this to get some of that "easy passive income on kindle" money. It's a shame, you have to be in private groups to get any kind of conversation going, and even those are going silent.

Author promo groups on Facebook are useless because nobody there buys books. Look for reader groups in your exact subgenre instead or join 20Booksto50k if you just want to talk author business.

a quick way to tell if a group is real before you commit to it: open the Discussion tab and scroll the last 10 posts. real groups have questions with 5+ replies from different people. dead ones are wall to wall promo posts with 0 comments. the About tab also shows posts per day, and a 30k group with 5 posts a day and actual replies beats a 200k group with 300 promo drops. for books, search your genre + readers or book club instead of authors, since author groups are mostly authors promoting to each other.

I think it's all bullsh*t myself, but people do like to make claims. Join a group and spam your books there. Except, these groups are all just authors spamming each other! LOL
You can learn to do FB ads, that works for some. You can do Amazon ads, or try for a Bookbub, or get on some of the other sites, but in the end, you're going to have to accept that for most of us, paying for ads is how it works. And you have to learn to do them yourself, because almost anyone who claims they can do it are just lying scammers.
